bike running bad intermittently

Post by reggie310 »

my vtr 1000 98 model runs fine but every now &then it is like its running on 1 cyl,i can stop at lights for approx 3-5 mins, then when i take off it wont go right, feels like it could be flooding because if i crank throttle it starts to clear out but takes bout 30 seconds etc also can be cruising along in third, come to a crest, back off, back to 2nd,accelerate again&it does same thing,i crank throttle &it coughs&backfires for about 1 min,if i pull clutch in it clears a bit quicker, this can happen anytime, warm or cold after easy riding or hard riding, plugs have just been replaced,HELP!

And did you check the gaps on the plugs when you put them in?

It sounds like a very similar problem I had - it was down to the plugs being knackered.

thanks for the replies but got it sorted,i had tank off &was a vacuum tube on wrong side of fuel tap,was only getting fuel thru under acceleration when there was crankcase pressure not when there was vacuum.
