Bought an Optimate 3 SP as the bike doesn't get used every day and the alarm seems to drain the battery. The Optimate is best left attached to the battery all the time (as I'm sure you all know) but I didn't like having to take the seat off and muck about with the battery connections each time. My seat is a b*stard to get off with the Renntec rack attached. Anyway, the Optimate comes with a cable for permanent connection to the battery terminals but the other end is loose so it either sits under the seat or maybe cable-tied to the frame somehow. I made this little ally block which holds the cable connector where it's easily accessible, and the waterproof cap then covers it when not in use. A bit boring but it's a lot easier to connect the thing up now.
OK, I'll knock a few more up. Will take a week or so... Hope they made the connector blocks all the same size as the clamp [top bit with the 4 screws] is made a tight fit.
Ooer, that's a lot. Well the price would be just for materials (barstock plus stainless screws), postage, and a wee bit for time. I'm not trying to make a business out of this, so maybe 7quid? I'll see if I can simplify the design a bit (doesn't really need the 4x 3mm cap-head screws, 2 x 4mm countersunk would be better but the body would need to be slightly wider). It attaches to the frame with 2x 5mm grubscrews and could be attached anywhere on the subframe - doesn't have to be where I show it. I'll add a couple more pics so you can see the thing better...
...and totally off topic (technically still an 'engine' ) another use for my machine tools was making stuff like this 3-1/2" gauge loco... Just thought you might be interested is all. Boiler is out at the mo.
I'm cutting up some 1" ally plate for these, I figure I might have enough (and the the will) to make about 10. If you definitely want one please send an email to me: chrisheapy at ntlworld dot com ,with your shipping address. First come first served, and if any left they go on ebay for 3 times the price . I'm reckoning on a quid postage, so really it's 6 quid plus whatever. I won't know exactly until I take one the post office.
