Back to bikes and first twin

Post by Donners »

After 6 years without a bike I recently bought a '97 VTR with 19,000 miles on the clock. Standard except for Remus end cans. My last bike was a '91 VFR750.

This site was recommended by member Warby221 who was selling parts on ebay and I've found some great info so far, especially on suspension set up as I'm 6'2" and 17.5 stone!

What I haven't found is a good dealer/workshop to get my bike serviced and where to get it dyno'd. I live in Wallington, Surrey.

Can anyone help with this and give me any advice on living with a VTR?

Hi m8 welcome to the mad house

Living with a storm

keep an eye on yer back tier ,chain and sprockets with a hefty lump of torque that the storm can put out it can be quite hard on them cam chain tensioner have been known to go but they usually give some warning so change them at 6k services seems the thing to do there about £25 each from Dave silvers if you still worried about them going you could go for manual adjusting ones like APE ones you can buy them from the us and have them delivered cheaper than buying them in the uk

servicing down your way I sure some one will be along shortly with a good comment on some one down there but a lot of jobs can be tackled by yourself on the storms there not to hard to work on

Welcome buddy, not from your neck of the woods so I cant help on dealers, as already stated listen out for cam chain noise. Swap the front pads for HH rated sintered type and enjoy. There are lots of mods to enhance your bike but my advice is to get used to the bike and its quirks in standard guise and improve as required.

Welcome aboard Donners :!: :D

I think most things have been covered already :!:
Your rectifier if still the original (no fins on it) is prone to giving up and are usually replaced with a secondhand Yamaha R1 or R6 finned item :!:
There's a Sticky in this workshop section on how it's done :!:

I can't help with a descent dealer/workshop as not my area.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll make the basic changes and take it from there.

I.ve recently returned to a bike. looked at all sorts before spotting a stormin a dealers. Sat on it and fell in love . Read all the hype and glory of a v twin. Looked around and bought one.

What can I say after a year of riding the storm, Shes like a big mamma, moans a lot but is sure of one hell of a ride.

Enjoy.
