Are there any other shocks that can be fitted with a minimum of fiddling to a storm?
Can I just look for any shock of a similar length or is that too simple?
I really don't want a second hand storm shock if I can get something a little bit tastier for not much more dollar.
Cheers.
shocks that fit?
shocks that fit?

It’s not that easy
The length is not the only thing to consider there’s the spring rate and damping rate too
the storm uses 12mm dia wire for the spring I tried a R1 shock a bit back with a spring of a vfr I had laying about the spring was to soft and the damping even with that spring was no were near just totally under damped there’s the blackbirds shock is meant to fit but it’s barely any different than the storms
You’d be better of getting a spring to suit your weight and have a standard shock revalved to suit
Or go for cheaper new shock set up for you something like a hargon shock

Yeah thought so!
That's what I figured as I hadn't noticed any threads with alternatives mentioned.
So either a crappy 2nd hand ebay jobbie or a brand new shock which will cost half the value of the bike. Looks like another crappy storm shock then!
May as well pull the old one apart and see how it works then!

Hagon
Wilbers 1
Wilbers 2
Wilbers Ecoline
Maxton
Penske
Ohlins
IMO its not worth skimping on. Live with the standard one designed for it or fit a proper high spec replacement. The Wilbers ones are probably the best value for money - you get a lot of shock for the price and I'm sure Warby has one and could attest to them. I have a Penske and it rocks as do some others on here and Alan has an Ohlins if you want any more details.

yep I have the Wilbers 2 on mine still need setting up to be spot on but that’s me with the setting not the shock
There’s no comparison to the original shock its that much better and for the money it’s a hell of a shock
If fiddling with settings is not your thing and cost is an issue a Maxton rebuild with new spring or a hargon is probably your best bet at similar cost

To be fair the hagon shocks are in my opinion a good value replacement for the oe (got one on my zx6)adfski wrote:cheers you guys!
Thatnks for them links Kitch. I think the Hagon one is £255 but need to spend more time. For now it's going to be a replacement ebay jobbie though.
At least until both the kids are in school!
