might sound like a daft question ... but

Post by Ernie Cooley »

Okay, I know through reading on here that the storm is prone to CCT problems, but what exactly should I be listening / looking for ?

Mine sounds fine on tickover, however at slow speeds I get a distinct rattle, drop it down a gear and it goes away, I always hear it when I engage 6th too no matter what speed I am at.

What does a damaged / worn / broken CCT do to a bike?

(Forgive me I aint no mechanic :? )

Bend two valves like mine has just done

Mine sounded as sweat as a nut with no distinctive rattling at all, the cct just went on me

The noise you are referring to sounds like the normal V-twin sound, if you have the standard sprocket set up in sixth it sounds totally different (really high gearing) Top tip is go to a bike meet and ask a vtr owner to start his up next to yours. They are not completely smooth a la 4 pot. Or even better ask someone on here who is close to have a listen. There was a post on youtube with a cct gone, have a trawl on there.
