Different looking CCT
Hi , I have just picked up my cct from the local dealer, and it looks different to the one i have took off.The original one has a metal cap on the end of the plunger, that pushes up against the guide, the new one did not come with this fitted. You would think it would be the same,or is it a difference in design.I am wondering wheter to fit it with the cap or without,as it seems to come off easily.Does this part make any difference.Cheers ,Yorky..

YES you do need to fit the metal cap to the new CCT from the old one
I have explained all about it here:-

Nice one, seems odd,but did fit it without metal cap to start with. Then had a feeling it did"nt look right,so checked old one, just prised it off and put it on the new one, wonder what would have happened?Must say since fitting it,it is a lot less rattly. The noise sounded to me like it was coming from the front left cylinder, but the local mechanic stuck a screwdriver to his ear,and said it was the rear that needed replacing.Am pleased but replaced it the haynes way, which basically says take the old one off,and pop on the new one..Cheers.

replaced cct but did not see metal cap on mine , are they normally taken out with old cct or do they drop into the cases ? the only bit isaw was the rubber on the end of the cct, what effect does it have if they are not there ?cos i have started to get a bit of noise from the front cct again and its done less than 600 miles since it was done

Missed this when I fitted orange spots a year ago. Left the metal cap on the old ones.
Luckily, I saw a comment on this a couple of weeks back and have just dropped them out and refitted the metal cap. Good job I kept the old ones!
Rear one had a mark where the plastic plunger end had been pushing on the tensioner blade, front one is unmarked.
In the year they've been in I've done the drag strip at the Bulldog Bash, ridden the thing pretty much every day (I use it for work as well as play), and thrashed it within a inch of it's life.
So maybe the orange ones are tougher after all?

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

The orange spots certainly look longer fully extended, about 5mm longer, than the old ones.So maybe there is 5mm worth of wear there,do they all come with the orange spot on?Or are the originals spotless.Looks like the metal cap probably makes not a lot of difference,as it only pushes against the chain guide.Does anybody have any dimensions for an old cct versus new one.

Have heard of people withdrawing the CCT and catching the metal cap against the inside edge of the hole (they are a pretty close fit through that hole) and not realising that anti-rubber-spread cap had come off. They then refit as they found it i.e. without the cap and you can guess the rest! Ouch.
Dumb idea not to have a reminder in the CCT packet perhaps?
