sticky choke??

hello everyone,

my 98 vtr, seems to have a fuelling problem, it stummbles to rise above 5000 revs especially in higher gears, it sounds like it is overfuelling maybe a sticky choke and cannot get past 90 mph.
anyone had this problem with theirs and how did you rectify it.
it was ok up until the middle of the week. i did fuel up at tescos and maybe got a dodgy batch of fuel but, seems more like the choke is stuck on slighty.
any help would be appreciated.

Not knowing how many miles your bike has done and if you've recently carried out any work on it etc it's a job to say

As you said it could be a batch of bad fuel.

When was the last time the spark plugs and air filter were renewed

It's not the same problem I know, but for what it's worth I've stopped using Tesco fuel, as the last twice I've filled up at my local Tesco I've had a terrible misfire in the lower rev range (below 5k revs) to the point where it was dangerous in traffic as I wasn't sure if I could pull out without cutting out.

This may sound like a silly question, but have you checked the choke to see if it's jammed on?

for what its worth one of my jobs for asda is running the petrol station and i can tell you it is VERY VERY VERY RARE to get duff petrol, a lot of people blame it now because of the scare last year(or year before) i get a least 10 people a week say there car is not right because of our petrol but as there is 10,000 customers a month i find this hard to believe as if it was a Bad BATCH THEN A LOT MORE THAN 10 WOULD HAVE PROBLEMS.Its either their car running poorly or them trying to make money out of the company as not one case has been proven yet out of at least 300 over the last couple of years.Hope this clears that up.

i ended up taking off carbs and cleaning choke needles, cleaned air filter fitted new plugs, then went to balance catbs just to discover a split in the vacuum pipe!
all running fine now, 100+ from calais to belgium.
done 240 miles at good speeds in bad weather only to drop the bike 10 yards from my front door when some, twatish woman pulled out from behind the van i was about to go round! doh!

I can only speak as I find, okcoky.

If I fill up at the nearest Tesco, the bike has a misfire - if I fill up anywhere else, I don't get a misfire (and haven't had once since I stopped using Tesco). I realise that there could be such things as a temporary blockage, but for it to clear when I fill up elsewhere, return when I fill up at Tesco again, and clear when I use another station, then it makes me suspicious. I haven't said it was Tesco's fuel causing the problem, just that it was there when I used their fuel, wasn't when I didn't, and hasn't returned since.

Anyway, I haven't said anything about trying to get money out of anyone - I just don't use fuel from my nearest Tesco anymore, and I'm sure they're really not bothered by that.
