Strange Noise

Post by genisis »

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone here can help

I had my carbs balanced a little while back by my local garage and when it came back i noticed a strange noise when starting it from warm. (hard to describe the noise but like a high pitch whine) the sound goes away when it starts and bike is running okay.

So today I ripped the tank off (had to-do adjust front CCT) and checked all the pipes leading into the air box ... and i've made it worse now it happens every time i start up it's louder and you can kind of here it when the bike is running.

it's hard to explain the noise but sound like a a very loud Woop Noise.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Matthew

Matthew,

Not really sure what that is with a sound like that :!:

First of all I thought that you may have the front CCT adjusted too tight, as you said you had to adjust it and it made it worse :!:

Seeing as you said you checked all the pipes going to the airbox did you make sure that 90 degree elbows coming from both carbs have connected properly to the bottom of the airbox :?: Also that the front cam cover breather pipe is connected properly to the bottom of the airbox :?: Can't really think what else it could be

If i can lay my hands on a good camera i will record the sound for future reference,

My thinking at the moment was that is that the front breath pipe from the front head is a pretty tight fit, i'm going to check that its not come away from the the top of the head. i know it's connected to the air box and that the 2 short pipes that run from the carbs to the box are okay.

the noise did go this morning when i cam out went to bournemouth yesterday and it was there all the time, it definetly sounds like the low howl you get from a milk bottle when you blow across it (but louder)

I'll see if i can post the sound tonight, might have to use my laptop to record it :)

Dude! I have the same sound.

I thought I was hearing things because its not all the time. Its exactly the same note as the klaxon on the pits at the TT. I know you all think I'm mad but if you see the footage you can hear a whooping sound (easy cowboy) as a rider comes in to pit.

After watching the racing on saturday we finished the lap just for good measure and I heard this noise. It caught my attention as I thought I was going mad - I swear its the same pitch as I had heard on the radio all day.

When I read your post I paid close attention when I went for a lap on sunday and sure enough it is there. Even at standstill with revs. I went to work this morn and it was quiet.

Keep us posted mate just incase its a potential problem.

not looked at it yet. but yesterday it was there all the time today went to work nothing (a slight tease at low rev's) coming home nothing on starting but could here it at the traffic lights.

I'm going to find out what it is this weekend

i'm 99% sure its something to-do with the air system.

Do you think it might be that it was actually warm when this all happened cos mine hasn't done it since the temp has dropped below 18-20 deg?

No Idea, i've looked again, But same as yours it's doing it less at the moment, I did notice that it stopped once i topped up my water but that can't be it surely,

The bikes coming off the road in a couple of weeks for a few things that need doing to it, so i will strip the whole thing if i need to.
