Hey up all, i have seen a few pics of storms wearing a sexy single, is it a fairly straight forward procedure, or is there lots of milling, spacers etc etc

cheers

Mozza its not difficult to do, the most difficult is the rear header pipe as this needs modifying cos the shock is central to the vtr frame when the swinger is in place, you will need 2 spacers making to tie the vfr suspension tie rod to the vtr frame, i have them so easy to copy, when the swinger is in and the correct spacers are used (VTR SWINGARM BUSH IN THE LEFT SIDE AND VFR BUSH IN THE RIGHT) you then need to drill the frame to take the shock, then you need some linkage plates making, i have the drawing if you go head, once everything is lined up and secure you need to line the chain up ( or sprockets) to do this there are a couple of ways but the best and easy way is to modify a front sprocket to use as a spacer roughly about 5mm (but you would know for sure when the build is done when you can have a measure) the spacer will sit behind the new front sprocket bringing the chain and rear sprocket inline, abit like an off set sprocket what chopper builders use also you need to remove the rubber backing plate from the sprocket cover to give more clearance for the spacer and thats about it really apart from the other bits you will need ie caliper, wheel, disc, brake hose etc etc. if you do go ahead give us a shout if you need help or any pics or linkages making.

I would fit it for you and get the plates and spacers made as for parts your best place to start is ebay. singlesiders often crop up complete with hub, caliper, etc etc as i said before the difficult part is the rear header pipe but a lad i know does this anyway. i could even help source the parts needed.

i like spending other peoples money

no seriously if you wanna go head gives us a shout ive got plenty of spare time on my hands. i would need your bike leaving at my house dont worry ive a big garage and a BIG Rottweiler

linkage plates £40
spacers around £10 to £15
swinger complete around £200-250 but maybe cheaper or more
rear wheel around £100 depending what you use.
new brake hose around £20
new bearings and bushes about £30 but you may not need em
any bolts you may need pends where you get em from.

anything else is extra ie powder coat or polish which i can get done very cheap anyway around £40 for polished swinger

Interesting front end... :)
You have to let us know how you get on if you start before me.
Thought about GSXR1000 USD's but thought it might be too much messing around so thought i would stick to Honda parts. :)

Its only extreme compared to standard storm Mike but no more than other sports bikes, and handles fantastic compared to standard.

Beast the 929/954 drops straight into the storm same steering stem so no fab work needs doing where as some others need new stems making and swapping off different yokes to get the steering as near close to standard, with the 929 route you loose about 5mm of steering lock but its not a problem for me or you can move the rads back by 5mm and the yokes will clear the rad hose.

if you do go 929 you will need the complete front end its better doing this way makes everything easy rather than matching bits up here and there.

Yeah read about 929/954 being the easiest bolt on.
So with the 929 i loose 5mm of steering lock, what about the 954 front the same being allmost identical?

Yes will be the same clearance issue the 954 forks are only slightly better than 929 but would we know the difference.

as for price wise i paid £160 for my forks (ebay) with spindle and they had the recall done

front wheel £130 company down south

yokes £75 from ebley honda
calipers £75 each ebley honda

discs £60 ebay bargain

front fender was given by ebley honda had slight damage but i repaired it
now swapped for carbon one £70

these are prices from about 1yr ago so might be more now or less
