Thanks for the suggestions

I've ordered a standard filter and will se how i get on.

May try the shim under the needle if I have no joy and if i'm brave enough to contend with the 74 foot long slider spring in the carb tops once again 8O

Will keep you posted on how I get on.

I've junked the Krap&Nasty filter and fitted a standard one. MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT :D

Initailly I wasn't sure that such a simple thing could solve the carb problems.

I know K&N's have their place, but I can certainly say they are wasted on a standard bike.

Unless you have free flowing race cans and possibly a Dynojet kit. Save your money and stick to the original filter.

Thank you all for your advice, you've save me alot of £££££ :D

Good to hear you got it sorted mate.

Funny that, a mate of mine who's dad owned a local Suzuki dealership once over, reckoned that the SRAD's were an absolute pig if anything other than standard Suzuki filter was used.

Aparently they had loads in with various aftermarket filters cos they weren't running smooth. Majority, OEM filter cured it.

As you say K&N's have there place, seeing as mine has Micron race cans on, and has been jetted and correctly set up on Dyno by Hobsport - reckon that's why I have no issues.

What condition is the K&N in? They should be cleaned and re-oiled at regular intervals .... Might be good as a spare.

Or if it's no use to you ??? ................... :)

Despite my slating of the K&N, I'll probably keep hold of it just in case I'm ever in a position to be able to afford some race cans.

Its only been used for around 2000 miles

Any suggestions of best way to store it? I was thinking of oiling it and storing in a sealed bag in the shed.

Don't know about storing it mate - they're usually best off in the airfilter box :?

If you still have original packaging then maybe it's best off in that.

Perhaps K&N could suggest something?

http://www.knfilters.com/facts.htm

There's some interesting info in and amongst, including the fact that they can be used without any other mods done to the bike.

Perhaps if you e-mailed K&N and described the problem you had, they might be able to suggest a solution other than junking or storing.

But hey! WTF do I know? Lee is the expert in all things

NOT

With them being so sh1te I'm suprised they offer a 1,000,000 mile / lifetime warranty.

Perhaps Snap On tools are 'effin shite' too

Be interesting to see how many folks on here, or on other bike forums have issue free K&N's fitted - 1 here!

Can't be ar5ed doing a poll though - I'm happy with mine, that's all that matters to me.

your one of the lucky ones graeme, on every forum ive been a member..its the same old story..k&n issues...i personally know loads of bikers thats ditched the k&ns even after dynojetting..some just put up with the rough spots!!....funny tho, how fitting an oe filter, yellows bike is sorted and everyone else's on here whos had sim probs and followed my advice, i dont state i know everything..never have and never will but i know k&n's rarely run right...jack at holeshot once told me, oe filter followed by pipercross were the best..and went on to say k&n's were the route of alot of problems..but then again what does he know

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

That's me told then huh?

Still we agree on at least one thing, at least Yellow's sorted, for now.

Presumably unless he gets a satisfactory answer from K&N, in 100 or so years, there'll be a shed find, of a pristine K&N air filter nicely preserved in a plastic bag. But everyone will be on hydrogen bikes by then so it'll just have to go in a museum.

Anyone want to send me their junked K&N's I'll gladly hold on to 'em - might be worth more than a penny black one day

Mine's good, lucky? maybe, but I'm happy :D

It'll still need an air filter if it's running on hydrogen, so maybe you can sell the K&N's back to people once they've given them to you

Official word from K&N Europe:

Hello

Thank you for your enquiry. In almost all cases where a carb. is in place, needle adjustment is necessary and in some cases a needle change.

K&N FILTERS (EUROPE) LTD

So there you have it!

You can't just plug'n'play with a K&N, you need to do some fettling.

They don't seem to advertise that in their sales patter.

in my experience the k&n didnt run right on the storm i was running race cans the throttle was very fluffy at the beginning and started to choke BUT mine wasnt jetted.

I do know that the dyno jet kit can cause carb problems due to the finish, there a bit rougher made and can wear the carb the factory pro kit seems to be better quality which alot of people prefer, getting the k&n and jet kit spot on requires alot of fitting time ie tank off and on etc etc till its right then needs alot of dyno time to get it spot on. and tests have shown that the K&N's benefits are high up in the rev range where as other filters such as bmc, pipercross etc etc is lowdown the range where its more usable imo but hey im no expert just my opinion and others
