Now im p***es off

Post by mozza71 »

Ok, new fork seal in, sat off for Oulton Park, on arrival left fork leg pissin out fluid. Rang Hunts Honda today, got told "bollox, you must have done it wrong, they don't fail"
Several choice words later and an explanation of how i fitted them finally gave in and said i can have another one as replacment.
now im not sure what to fit, standard Honda or an after market option.
Smile..........it confuses people

Adfski also had problems with 'genuine' Honda ones IIRC.

And one or two others recently.

Pretty sure these are the ones that worked OK

Depending on the wear in the fork legs it's not always just change the seal and you are done.
There are also a couple of metal rings which are the "Friction metals" the fork slides up and down on. If one or both of these are worn it will cause a constantly leaking seal. It might be worth checking/changing them the next you change the seal

My new even better seals have started leaking now.

I really don't know what to do. I changed the sliding bushes in one and both are leaking. They seemed fine for a month or so and then a small leak appeared on the one.

That seemed to clear up so i assumed it was just residue left beneath the dust seal until the other day I gave it a good thrashing on a bumpy back road and noticed it was leaking. Then the other one leaked.

I haven't used proper honda oil seals as I read on one of the many forums that they can be faulty as well. I got some from PKN on e bay and they leaked IMMEDIATELY I let the bike down. They are aware of this problem and refunded me. These seals have ONE tensioning ring - which I was warned about.

The second set came from here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123

They were really helpful and the seals have two tensioning rings. As to why they have failed I will update when I get paid at the end of the week and get some new seals. Might try the honda originals this time.

Also I'm going to stick the forks on a lathe and polish the surface with some t-cut or duraglit to try and reduce any tiny pits or scratches that may be causing the failure.

butt! - good luck mate. keep us posted.
