Tool Kit Retaining Rubber

Post by tattie »

Has anybody got any tips for repairing or replacing the round section tool kit retaining rubber, mine snapped the other day and I dont fancy leaving the tool kit and puncture repair stuff to rattle about and possibly fall out.

Cheers

I know it sounds obvious and perhaps a little bit flippant, but what about glue?

Super Glue to be precise :o

Didn't the original TV adverts show someone gluing a rubber belt together with it, stringing across some parallel bars and then sitting on it?

I've used it to repair 'o' rings in the passed as a temp measure till I could replace them and all has been fine.

A friend of mine who used to work for Weir group making huge pumps for oil rigs etc, used to make 'o' rings for them from coils of correct diameter rubber, cut to length and glued (probably not super glue, but certainly something similar).

I would imagine as long as you have clean or at least matching ends, SG will suffice.

Or
How about using a bit of bungie cord. It should be available in any car accessorie shop. The old rubber might just be past it's sale by date and brake again.

Red Storm,
I'll try the glue idea and pete I will have a rake around for some of the small bungies I have somewhere.

Cheers
