I mentioned that I was going to the Bulldog Bash to run the old Storm up the drag strip, and this year planned to try two long trumpets one day (and dyno it), then two short trumpets (and dyno it) the following day.
Due to weather, I only got four runs all weekend

But what I got was (with the two long ones fitted): 11.6 standing 1/4, with a 124 terminal speed. Lousy reaction time, so there's at least 1/2 second to come off that.
Dyno gave a reasonable 106.44 BHP at the rear wheel, and with a 15 tooth front sprocket it gave 157.34 MPH at the limiter.
Didn't get a chance to swap to the two short ones, sadly.
But the biggest surprise was the mixture readings: (stochiometric ratio, techie talk-wise

I'd expected it to be running rich; (I rarely need choke, even in the depths of winter), but I have an air/fuel ratio nearly 14:1 all the way up to the top end, but at 25-70 MPH in top it's really lean- way down to 18:1, which is dangerous.
It should be 13:1 ideally. Hole in the piston here I come....
Recommendation from the dyno guy is to go up one size main, pilot mixture out 3/4 turn, maybe next size up pilot jets, and lift the needles up one or two grooves.
God knows what I'll get to the gallon after that's been done.
When I bought it I was told that it had been set up with a Dynojet kit to suit the straight-through carbon cans and the K+N filter- which I foolishly believed.
So it looks like I'll need to have a carb overhaul session, do the work and dyno it again.
Anywho, I said I'd report back on here when I'd thrown it up the strip, and that's as good as it got for this year.
I'll be trying again next year, though!
