Still waiting on the welder at the moment still on his hols. As for the wiring i have pretty much worked out where its all gonna go and its gonna be tight but think i can get it all in. Also need to do something with the rear brake resovoir as on the old seat unit it bolts to the sub frame but not on this one think i have a plan for that aswell though. Only other thing i have been doing is playing with some colours thinking of doin something a bit differant with it will post a pic up later of a quick photoshop a friend at work has done. Oh thanks for that link to the exhaust place think they are gonna be getting a call soon with a little order.

Small update managed to get a bit of time to do a bit more. I now know where the electric components are going to go and have had to make a shelf for the reg/rec and one of the cdi units then find places for the flasher unit and the other cdi unit. Need to find a place for the coil pack for the rear cylinder and the starter solonoid but will do this when the battery box is in as i think i will have space above the battery. As for the welding i am taking the bike there tommorow and hopefully it can be done in a day does'nt look that complicated but then i am not a welder so don't know. Some pics.

This is how its going to go to the welders and the subframe will be removed once all measurements are taken.

All the wiring pulled back over the airbox so it does'nt get burned. Not really looking forward to doing the wiring but 5 years as a car alarm and audio fitter might just get me though it. I hope.

Both these pics show the differance in the top mounts and how much material needs to be added. The bracket on the left side is just a temp while we work out how to do one side it will then be removed to copy on that side. Also need the battery tray welding in and all the front of the subframe gusseting where its been cut to get back some stength. Will post some more up tommorow when i get back and will try and get some while the welding is being done.

It's really good to see the pic's as you progress, (as they say a pic speaks a thousand words) you can appreciate much more how much work is involved

Well what a day to cut a long story short no welding has been done but a lot of other work has been done. After a trip to the welders we had a chat about the project and came to the conclusion that the brackets for the top mounts may not need welding. So after a lot of head scratching and a couple of brews i had a trip to my local enigineering suppiers and got myself some stainless nuts and bolts and a piece of 12mm thick aircraft grade ally. Then attacked it with the hacksaw and file and this is the result.

Made up two brackets which mimic the style of the original ones on the subframe of the storm. These are bolted to the subframe using two stainless m10 bolts on each side and then to the frame with stainless bolts which are the same thread as the o.e ones. Need cutting down a bit though.

The other reason for not welding these brackets on is the battery wont go in unless i can remove them its very tight.

This is where my cdi and reg/rec are going to live the reg/rec is underneath.

This is where the rest of the bits has to go got a nice place for the other cdi box and the flasher unit but need to find space for the coil pack and starter solonoid. Gonna start on the wiring tommorow if it does'nt rain.

OCC has got nothin on me ha ha.

I like the pics of the mods ,lots of detail....oh,,,and thats a rather tasty socket set you've got, much better than my bits n pieces

Have thought about that but just think that a nylock nut is a bit more reliable than tapping the ally it is quite soft. May look at getting a smaller battery if i can find one with the same oomph as the firestorm one and then i can get them welded on.

My socket set is a Blue point one i beleive they are a Snap-on clone. Must admit it is bloody stong and was'nt that expensive about Â£100 i think with a liftime warranty.

Off we go again. Started to do the wiring this morning only got a couple of hours as i promised to take the missus out this afternoon

Need to keep her happy as she pays for a lot of my bits bless her

So managed to get most of the electrical components in but it is very tight and only need a couple of mods to the loom mainly extending wires.

Oh my god its never gonna fit

At this point i was having doubts about whether i could get it all in.

But after a bit of a fight i came out the victor.

Still need to sort out a few lose ends like the battery cables and the earth strap and need to extend a couple more wires but the main part is done. Once those are done i will tape up the loom and secure it to the subframe. Trying to get the wiring looking as close to factory as i can have learnt the hard way a few times with wiring that if you cut corners it will come back and bite you.

So thats the end for this weekend and i am away at the Nurbergring next weekend so will be a while before i post another update.

Unless i can sneak in the garage one night next week.

I like the "OCC has nothin on me" bit

hopefully you don't have Paul Senior breathing down your neck

PS. As a substitute you could use countersunk hex headed bolts if you countersink the alloy brackets (if you don't like the idea of Mikes and yours of threading the alloy) so you the battery can clear for removal. I doubt you'll get a smaller battery without losing capacity as I was looking for a bigger capacity one for my Storm, but it meant bigger in size too

Funny you should mention Paul senior. Check out this pic of my dad on his Harley loads of people call him senior lol.

The guy on the back is Charlie Gjedde a danish speedway rider who rides for Belle Vue.

In all honesty Daz its quite an easy conversion on the 05 subframe can't see the 08 one being that much differant. See you have got a single sider on yours if you did that yourself you should have no problem at all doing this. If you need any info or want to have a look at mine in the flesh let me know i am based in Manchester but do get over to Nottingham a bit as i have family there so when its done if you want to have a look i can always swing by.
