hello, help needed......

Post by byebyebandit »

morning or afternoon everyone. had my VTR for nearly two weeks and absolutely love it. looks and sounds like a bike should. bit worried when my first tank of juice lasted 63 miles 8O but it was worth it for the noise and the smile on my face.

some advice please, i have some dunlop 204s on it at the mo that have nearly had it, any suggestions for a good tyre to replace them with. most of my riding is fastish commuting and some weekend runs with friends.

thanks

I've had the fuel light come on after 70 miles of city riding, so not unheard of. The Dunlops are crap. I have been using Pirelli Dragon Evo's for a year now and find them quick to warm up, but a little dodgy in the wet. They are not a current tire, so prices are good on them over here.

204's (sport) are a bit of a odd ball (well over here) as they are the factory tyre (one of) I have just replaced my 1st set at 6700km The rear was buggered and proberly 1-2000k left in the frount.

So I'm looking for longer lasting set, so I went for the 208 (sport) frount and 220 (sport/tour) rear.
If the frount still weres fast then I will try D220's at both ends next time around.

V V why do you say 'Dunlops are crap' how do you ride fast /slow, straight lines / lots of corners?

63 miles!?
has your bike been jetted? 'cos 63 mile per tank sound way off the mark to me. Mine did around 105 before the light came on but that was 95% motorway work.

I just put on the d220's front and back and like them they are way better than the Bridgestones I had.

Sorry, I didn't mean all Dunlops, just the 204's, which I ran for a few months until I couldn't take all the sliding anymore. Since switching to the Dragons I've had no such issues. BTW I'm slow on the straights but a little quicker in the corners

I have found the best combination to be

Front Bridgestone BT 010 - grippy as hell and gives confidence in the wet.

Rear Bridgestone BT 020 - just about as grippy (especially for road riding and commuting) and equally good in the wet.

Get em on - they rock! :P
Really Nice, isn't it

I agree
that's what i got they grip well in the wet on me way to work an luverly in the dry, better than the crappy michelin pilot sports that were on it when i bought it. Only down side was gettin a big f***k off screw in the new back less than a week after it bein fitted an havin to have another fitted  :!: :!:

I'm just finishing a set of Metzlers on the Storm now. The back lasted about 3000 miles.

sh1t thats not alot! They must of been real softies not the sport/tourer tyres I used, if I ran the softer MEz3 on the frount then I'd only get 6200ml (this is on the Guzzi, much heavier than the VTR)
I ride quite hard at times and tour a lot.
I am hoping to get 10000km (6200ml) out of the D208 frount and the D220 rear, time will tell.
