Original CCT's

Post by Storm Trooper »

Was just wondering, most of the CCT threeads on here have been due to problems/ failures / replacements etc, but how many people on here still have the original factory CCT's still on their bike? If so how many miles have they done and how old is the bike.

It would be interesting to see from the other side of the fence where there have not been any problems?

Cheers

Will be amazed if there are any after 12000 miles that are on originals to be honest. My front started rattling at 10K
Just change for manual tensioners 8)

You would never really know for sure if it was on original cct's i suppose, unless you bought the bike new :!:

Did read somewhere that you could determine the age of the cct, something to do with the paint dot colour on them (mines is mauve), :?:

I dont know if thats true or not :!: ,i did read, also on here that it was more likely a colour code to do with quality control or despatch :!:

Be prepared to be amazed then. My oridinals lasted 37,000 miles :!:

As for locking them off, having dismantled the old CCTs and examined them, I can't see how this would work in the event of the spring breaking, but there you go.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Fair enough I stand corrected, the bolt would certainly stop the plunger retracting in the event of spring fail thus keeping the tension on the cam chain. The CCTs are a massive Honda problem (also been told of some Gixers failing) also some Blackbirds failed at very low mileages and some went on to 100K. Rider versus quality control ?

Replaced mine over a year ago, just for peace of mind.
Fine until today, when the front bugger failed.

Tomorrow I find out whether it's taken valves with it.

If not I'll fit one of the old ones until I get APE ones!

Please Note
Anyone whose been reading this thread and is thinking about doing the bolt up the rear of the CCT mod, bear in mind it's not just a matter of screwing a bolt in the end, there's a little more to it than doing just that :!:

Should have mentioned, 52,000 plus kilometers, so 32,500 miles or so....
Thrashed every damn one since I bought it at 18,000......

Either way, still need to rebuild after bloody front one failure.

I got 18K out of the front one before it started to rattle, replaced it for original Honda and only got 8k out of that one, replaced it again for another original and 4k later it started rattling again so I changed them both for APE ones. The rear was original the whole time and wasn't rattling when I put the APE replacements in.
I recon running dry due to its upward slant shortens the life span of the front one as the rear is always full of oil but I've heard of plenty rear ones going too.
Who's had which one let go on them the most, front or rear?
