Question ? - Carb Balancing

I plan on balancing my carbs sometime soon, as it hasn't been done in a year or so. It's running fine, it never does any harm just to make sure they are evenly balanced.

Greg's honda page (lot's of references on here to it) has a very good step by step guide to balancing without removal of any parts! Might need to utilise my 9 year old sons tiny hands though for reaching the allen screw on the front cylinder.

When the engine is at operating temperature I know that the carbs should be checked for balance at idle & then at about 4000 rpm and a compromise set at the difference if there is any.

My question is - Is there an approx reading for vacuum ? or is it a case of as long as the two are the same then it should not really matter?

Nigel,
IMHO as long as the reading is the same from both carbs (as you say) then that's all that matters

If you are using the type of carb balancer that has two separate gauge's test both gauges on the same carb vacuum pipe first, to make sure they are both giving the same reading before you start balancing
