I have eventually finished giving her a good birthday:-

Subframe removed and repainted
All electrical connectors removed, cleaned and remade if looking iffy
Swinging arm removed, powder coated and bearings replaced
Front fork bottoms repainted
Suspension linkages regreased and one linkage replaced
Calipers and pistons cleaned
Wheels resprayed and new bearings
New plugs, air and oil filters and oil change
Coolant drained, flushed and refilled- new bottom hose fitted
Choke cables replaced
Bellypan resparyed to match rear wheel
Valve clearances checked
Manual CCT check (no adjustment needed - again!)
Cracked fairing lugs repaired
Scottoiler rerouted
Headstock bearings re-greased and adjusted

Very nice, but you could have cleaned the tyre fitting gunk off the tyres

Dunno why but I was expecting a black swining arm and fork lowers

Still needs a wash and polish but I was hungry at the time so that can wait till Monday

turned up the tickover to try and stop the annoying fart it has at 2800 rpm......so far so good, 1400rpm it is then

Painted one side. Next side when I get the gasket! I need a new set of caps though

Looks like a good finish, what paint did you use for that?

A layer of acid etch over a cleaned standard cover. Then used Holts beige metallic, 3 layers of laquer too. It should break up that side lovely

Really like that, does anyone know whats close to the standard Honda colour?

They need finishing but are coming up well.

Very nice... I've got to do something with mine, they're starting to look scruffy, the old alloy fluff is starting to appear.

I'd probably go with the painted finish, I'll never stay on top of the polished one and then they'd go fluffy too!

Is this very involved? Can you just remove them from the sides of the engine (after draining the oil and water) and then put them back (with a new gasket), or do you end up unbolting half of the rest of the bike in the process?

Now what colour? I'm half tempted to go yellow, to match the rest of the bike, just to make it really offensive! Oh, and the wheels will need doing (winter job)... Yellow too?

Okay, joking, not yellow... I promise.

While you can do a lot with the part off the bike without rushing - It's feasible to spray paint bit s & bobs on the bike if you don't skimp on preparation and make sure you thoroughly mask off the rest of the bike from overspray - using masking tape (blue type is good) and newspaper etc. If outside do on a clear dry day and leave required time before coats. If pushed you can accelerate drying times using a hair dryer
