I used copper grease where the holes in the metal back to the pad sides on the exposed pin. Which other grease do you recommend?

Copper slip is fine for the pad retaining pins, but not for the caliper sliding pins (the ones that go into the rubber boots, you get these on two or three piston sliding calipers)

what about the big metal pin on the rear caliper that sits inside the rubber boot, should I use high temp grease, as I've used red rubber grease on it?

I use high temp grease on the shaft part then a light dab of copper slip on the threaded part, making sure not to mix them.

check that when you put caliper back on if any grease squeezes out of the rubber, if it does wipe it off.

The calipers are budget jobbies on my gpz500. The "main" sliding mechanism behind the boots is in good order. But the main pins extend to support the fixed pad. This pad slides on these pins not just fixed supports. They're exposed to the rain and crud and need cleaning and copper grease at very regular intervals to get the max braking force. They're quite feeble to start with and there's only one caliper at the front so every morsel of friction saving counts! Thankfully the bike is very light. Like a moped after jumping off something like a firestorm.

Blew up my Ducati today. Left a trail of oil. Still running when I stopped but the oil pissing out looked like silver paint. Can't face looking at it yet....

It's an old Multistrada DS1000. Air cooled (year 2004). Thrashing it home from a business meeting, bounced it off the rev limiter and then over the next mile or so it stopped pulling well. Picked up on smaller throttle openings which made me think it was fuel starvation; a blocked fuel filter or something. Then I saw smoke behind which turned out to be oil on the pipes (and all over the back wheel). Oil temp went up as well. When I stopped oil was pissing out somewhere near the starter motor but it was still running OK. But, as I said, the oil coming out looked like silver paint and since it had an oil change less than 100 miles ago I thought that wasn't a good sign.

It's up at my local bike butcher and he'll probably take a look next week. I suspect it's not something I want to tackle myself. I suspect I'm going to break it for parts. I'll be glad to get rid of it. It's been nothing but trouble; lovely to ride though. Hey ho....
