Nice pic Chris (LSM) a good shot :!:

If you look at it quick it looks a bit like you've shoved a shuttlecock in the end of the can

Battered baffle

Post by bikerpiker »

Have now done what a few people have done on here and elsewhere.
As posted previously,i had drilled 8 holes round my baffles, which,i drilled bigger n bigger untill i couldnt get a drill in :!:
Today i got a small sharp chisel, and cut from hole to hole, then gave each baffle end an allmighty clout with a copper mallet, well a few actually, and oot it came :!:
Tried to clean up round the hole with my wee battery dremell but it ran out of puff,so started using a round file....then i ran oot of puff
Will try a rottary file or similar,or borrow an elecric dremell.
The sound is excellent,,well for a standard can anyway :!:
I really should have looked into it more, hope i dont need to re-jet or anything.
Desparate to try it,but it's just started pissin doon :!:
(cant complain, had no rain but odd, n i mean odd shower for aboot 6 weeks) :!:

Hey biker, why didnt yh use one of them there large hole saws that yh fit to the lece drill. they come in different sizes. there often used to cut holes for large waste pipes to go through
Would have been so much quicker .
Just a thought.

Didnt have one correct size mate :!:
Also with me drilling 8 holes, which,in the end were about 12 mm dia, there wasn't much steel in between.
Only took a few mins each side to cut with small sharp chisel going from hole to hole :!:

Drilling baffles...the ultimate ghetto modImage

I did it on my old 'Storm.....made it sound like it should have sounded like!Image. Have also done it on the Fireblade (2 x 30mm hole saws down the exhaust pipe).....nice and rumbly low down with a nice tone without being offensive. Youtube video...this is not my bike though

Have a look here. This describes a full bafflectomy, where all of the baffle is removed.

What I did on my old 'Storm was drill the connecting plate between the exhaust "snorkel" and the outer. You can even get a big "washer" made up that you could fix in place with a self-tapping screw to return it to stock (MOT time)

Yep,thats what i did, i didnt need to go in with a screwdriver though.
Once the baffle was clouted in, a few wiggles and it pulled out no problem.
Now i just need to go on to ebay n buy a couple of micron exhaust stickers or similar
