i cannot see how a cam can jump a tooth by simply removing the cct when not at tdc?).

Even if the chain goes really slack because the tensioner is removed and the chain slips around the crank or cam because the valve springs are so strong?

Either way, good find. At least you checked and didn't run into any real grief. Good man

Pete, with the cam chain tensioner removed the only way i could move the chain one tooth over the cam sprocket was to unbolt the cam, there isn't enough room between the cam sprocket and the wall of the camshaft tunnel

what you need now is a large inlet trumpet hehe

Mark, it runs exactly the same apart from its ever so slightly more difficult to start but hardly noticable
Has the trumpet made a noticable difference at all?

That's the way it goes bud.
When you don't want the timing to move the bloody chain jumps just when you don't expect it and when you're trying to put it right you can't make it move no matter how hard you force it. :mad2
I think it's more commonly known as sods law :wink2

I fitted 2 new cct's yesterday , all went well i think, i started it up and ran it for 5 mins , obviously i turned the engine over by hand first.,... although due to the non-stop rain ive not test ridden it yet.

Surely following the step by step instructions on this 'site would mean the chain cant slip ...you've got me worried now

I nearly missed out one step of them ,my printers not working ,so had to write the instructions out by hand .

it won't slip. Not unless the ccts retract. What I was refering to is what can happen when fitting a tensioner if you are not at TDC and just remove the tension on the chain. Once they are fitted and tested (as you have) they are not going to slip out again......well,not until the next time the cct's need replacing again

I took it a short blast yesterday , all is well ,gonna fit the stoppers in the cct's sometime soon.

I had only just fitted cct stoppers a few months ago in my old cct's, but the bike developed an occasional cam chain rattle , new cct's has sorted it though, so got to do it again ,...no big deal though

Mine didn't run for long when it slipped, either
Bent two valves before I could even turn it off.....
