I can't say I ever had an issue-but i don't do it all that often. Only if I HAVE to wiggle the bike out of a tight spot. If they were supposed to be moved like that it'd be common practice all over I suppose

Get it wrong and they go with a fair old bang have witnessed that more than once...

To be fair, i was taught about 10years ago to spray chains like this, lever bike onto stand and other person rotates and sprays chain. Also turn round like in the picture....never ever had a problem here....
