Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
Thanks for the link. Just been out in the garage with some water and compound and all the scratches in the RH fairing have gone, cant even tell where they were, they were only from the indicator screw anyway and that come off its mounting and saved that from damage too so looks like i'll be keeping the old girl and as you say, the fairings will pop up at some point so they can wait if i want to change them. Right, spring ordering time i think

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
you will need to see how it rides as well bud, mine looked straight but the yokes were bent - they are quite soft.
i got a good set cheap like and it rides spot on (for me) now...
if it wont corner right it'll be the yokes.
you will know when you take the front spindle out.
i think the reason mine were bent is cos the recovery guys dragged it back up a hill by the left yoke... it was 20ft down a valley lol
worth taking a slow twisty ride before you cane off on it - dont want to bin it again eh

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
I can't feel anything wrong with the steering mate. The levers never even hit the deck as the crash bung took all the impact. I've got new crash bungs on the bars too and they are not marked but will check and Wow, thanks for the link to the place in Bury Benny. I know where that is as i deliver to a company opposite called G Signs and i am going tomorrow so i will pop in and have a chat and get the wallet out i think.

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
Went to FTR today Benny and got a quote of £92 + vat for front progressive and £79 + vat for rear spring and if i want it fitted and set up by them it will be £150 + vat. I'm tempted to do it myself but want it set up properly too

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
you will notice the difference m8... probably worth it in the long run, a better handling bike is a faster bike, pleasure to ride, and think about it... if you'd done this before, you might not have lost it & come off.
money well spent imo

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
I will certainly order the set but still weighing up whether to fit them myself or pay them but it then makes a £200 job £400 so i think i will be looking at the manual tonight. If i spend £400 on it then i might just as well send it to salvage. I think you are right about saving the low side, the fork springs are so soft, i notice it more now, and it is bottoming out on hard braking coming to roundabouts and traffic lights so got to be changed

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
the front forks are the weakest part of teh firestorm design, get them sorted with new springs and oil, and it will change the way you feel about the bike.
and always look at these mods as something that you can sell on.......a set of modified forks are worth more than the standard ones, so you are adding value. same goes for a new shock, you can always sell it and put the old one back on the bike.

i dont think thats a decision you will regret.
might save another drop and will definately improve the bike.

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
Just got my bike back from FTR Suspension in Bury St Edmunds today fully fitted and set up with Yacugar progressive springs front and back. What a great service, dropped it off at 10, collected at 3pm all done
Only gripe is that i've not be able to ride it yet apart from the short distance from end of drive to garage
Feels so different though, like a new bike and so balanced. A big thanks Benny for the heads up on the company
I feel a good scratching session coming on very soon. Be fun to find out what a difference they have made, along with the -1 tooth front sprocket i've just fitted too. Bought a set of 32mm mirror extenders as well but not sure if they will be staying on, look bloody wierd at the moment

never mind what they look like - you can actually see thats all that matters.cunningstunt wrote: Bought a set of 32mm mirror extenders as well but not sure if they will be staying on, look bloody wierd at the moment
ive got them on mine & theyre great. plus they kill any vibration so the mirror image is perfect at any rpm.
have a play with them & get them set right, i set mine so i can just about see my shoulders, perfect view either side.
good investment imo compared to the std ones.
wise investment on the handling mods too m8

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
I am well pleased with the feel of the bike for the 100yd trip today, feels so much more balanced. The mirror spacers i got don't seem to fit mine properly though
Don't know if it's me fitting them wrong but they don't sit on the mounts properly and the extender nuts don't seem long enough either! Got them from US via ebay 170542077235. Will have a play tomorrow and see what i can do with them other than throw them in the back of the garage
What ones did you get mate?

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
bought mine off someone here - cant remember who lol!
you might be fitting em upside down or summat?
& if the extender bolts arent long enough just leave them unscrewed a bit where they go into the mirrors.
i bet they'll pull in proper once theyre on right.
i put a rubber gasket under mine as well, totally vibe free

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
I can't fit them upside down mate as the hole is full size to take the adaptors uptil the last 3mm or so and then it goes to 6mm for the thread size only, so will only go one way but that means there's a 5mm gap between the base of the mirror mounting and the spacer
I feel like getting the drill out and making the hole the same size all the way through, that'll solve the thread length and funny sitting position................. or totally knacker it, then i'll throw it to the back of the garage
Something doesn't look right does it

Re: Firestorm takes a tumble
uh i dunno m8, the ones i got had already been fitted to the previous owners bike so maybe they were the same?
in fact come to think of it im sure the 8mm hole goes all the way through?
