when does it run out of petrol

Post by the pill »

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in carb, settings (or something) from pre 2001 and current models (slightly updated) :?: as there appears to be better economy on the latter. 8O

Well I'm not to sure but this is off the Aussie Honda web site

Engine tweaks
The VTR1000F Firestorm’s high-powered 90-degree V-twin engine has won instant renown for providing strong, exhilarating performance coupled with superb reliability. For 2003, the engine received a detailed inspection of all the components that factor into its performance equation, which resulted in small but significant modifications made to such points as its carburettor and ignition settings in the interests of smoother, more responsive performance

So what differencs I dont Know and when they took affect that to I dont know but somewere along the line I think that the hp went up a little 102-110 maybe?

Just be careful once the light comes on. Last week, I was on my way home (12km from work), and the light came on. I thought, "Oh well - I'll fill up at the station near home." Got near home, and though, "Fekkit - I'll do it in the morning!".
Next day, light's on, and I thought, "Oh yeah - better fill up. I'll do it at the servo on the other side of the bridge." It looked like it was about to piss down with rain, so I just went straight to work, thinking, "Must fill up at the Shell next to work."
After work, light's still on (funny that), and I thought, "Hmmmm.... no sweat - I can make it to the BP, that's only a couple of km at most."
Half a km later - Splutter...Cough...Fart..Splutter. Quick U-turn, and try to nurse it to the Shell station. Got within a couple of hundred metres of it.
Phark, the Storm's a heavy beast when you have to push it!

And by the way - with it on its sidestand, the tank would only take 15.65 litres with it slopping over the top.
At least it started very easily, unlike the VFR, which would take ages to pumpt the gas through. (Only ran out of gas on that a few times... like 3 or 4..... D'Oh!!)

best I have managed is 127 miles, worst is 68, everything done with the bike being filled upright to ensure the most fuel goes in.

before I fitted the 15 tooth sprocket the light used to come on at about 92-95 miles in normal use, and 105-110 in light use. Now, it comes on at anything from 55 to 90 miles depending on how I'm riding.

as an aside, I coughed into the petrol station last night running on vapours, and it took 13.73 litres to fill, so I want Mr Honda to explain where the missing litres are.

pushing it is nowhere near as bad as swallowing a mouthful of petrol while syphoning it out of a mates blade on a dutch hard-shoulder (the 5th time I ran out on that trip!)

Do you reckon the little orange / red light starts not so bright, and then the worse it gets, the brighter it gets ?!?
