SPONDON BRACKETS

Post by lloydie »

As long as the bracket is within reason cost wise and moulded to fit
In side the frame most ail welders could do the job in a few hours for about £100
Rear sets eBay
Strip the bike down yourself and you will learn more about what your riding
I will be stripping mine down in winter
Anyway for a good clean and a preventative maintenance that's how I spend my winters last year it was the blade
And the year before it was the
Cbr400 witch I fitted a cbr600 engine in that to need frame work done to except the bigger engine

So I'm not new to modding bikes
Summer for riding and winter for modding :)

Can't ride but it don't stop me trying

good luck with it lads, as long as spondon don't ask silly money for them, i expect to see a couple of well modified bikes next spring from you two.
i can't remember who started this thread but if you were to let the superhawk forum know aswell you might be able to order a greater volume of units, making it cheaper still............

That sounds fair enough to me Geoff, it's your bike after all. If I'm honest it never even occurred to me that someone would want to go to that expense for aesthetics only, but fair play to you if that's what you want.

Good luck in getting a deal with Spondon.

I have just gone the same route, Chris, I wanted a bit of a challenge and it's not more than a few grams added, so a bit of lightweight bling is ok.
Most of my bike is modded to add lightness and simplify, with more power as the bonus.

But if you lighten the bike it has the same effect as adding more power, and conversely adding power if it adds weight is rarely worth it, with the possible exception of the extra weight of a tourbocharger.....

In my case any support bracing will help to give me peace of mind. I would rather not have the back of the gearbox break off, really.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

what is it they say about imatation and flatery.......
i've seen a few bikes on the net that have tried to replicate the spondon look but non have really pulled it off, i like what the dutch fella in thunderbikes did with his frame, it doesn't look spondon but it does look strong, i know you guys will come up with something you always do......

A few of us met him and his mates at Thunderbikes the other day, the easy way to mod this is to just fit the back end from a written-off SP2 or SP1.
Weld the lower extensions on, once chopped off the original frame, and everything else just bolts on.

Well, I say "easy"..........maybe a bit more to it than that, but not too bad.

Hi Marty, I brought a sp1 arm for my vtr but if menmory serves me right there are a few problems the main one is sp1 arms bolt onto the frame and the suspension linkage doesn't line up.

Guys if you look on Daves website, http://www.1771racing.co.uk/ , This is the Storm he's running in Thunderbikes whom we met at Brands.

The SP rear end consists of the swingarm plus a chunk of the frame, which is welded to the frame of the storm. Look at the pic on the home page & you should be able to see what I mean. The new arm doesn't bolt to the engine as normal but to the extra bit of frame welded on.

Maybe Dave will be along soon & poss post some pic's of the install.

Mac

Make that the 1717 news page.

Tony, if you're going to fit a turbo charger then I would suggest getting the frame castings boxed-in and brackets made up and fitted too, one way or another

I wonder if those brackets could be CNC machined up :?:

hi geoff
because i've got the spondon frame bolting the sp1 swingarm on isn't a problem, but the suspension links would be, i would have to get something made up....
