Not sure what colour I want it now.
I was playing with the idea of white, with matching numberboards at the rear. But then I saw this:
http://www.abodewindowfilms.co.uk/acata ... -Wrap.html

I've asked for a sample, to see how tacky it looks.

Otherwise I will just go with grey graphite metallic to match the bellypan and tail unit.

I'd like to get a decent paint finish, though, and have never had a good result from a rattle can.
I never get the cutting and lacquering right.
If I do go down this route, does anyone want to give me a hand to get this looking like a pro job?

my plan in the future is to get both white and black carbon wrap, overlay them so you get either a white border and black numberboard or vice versa....
i will be using these guys....

decent price for a good product

It would look better not to overlay them. Yes it would be harder to do keeping them flush, but overlaying them adds to the height and unevenness. So if one wants to lacquer over the top, it will take a lot of coats and rubbing down the raised bits to get the complete piece flush with the paintwork. Unless of course you don't mine having uneven bodywork/paintwork.

IMO all decals, carbon wrap etc should be put directly onto the paintwork, then lacquered over to give a factory finish and more wear and tear.

i've noticed that laquering over vinyl wrap doesn't work very well, it doesn't have longevity. nobody who sells vinyl wrap reccomends laquering , because it isn't designed for it. unless you get the numberboards made up specially for the job you will always end up with a compromise in the finish. when i finally get around to changing petrol tanks i intend to rub down the old 16ltr one and have a go at wrapping it, i wouldn't hold my breath tho, its supposed to be one of the hardest things to wrap...

the wrap came this morning so i did it for you buddy....
i rubbed it down and sprayed it tough satin black first, i decided not to wrap the side/park light area, because it's tricky and doesn't look very tidy, so i trimmed around it, i think it looks good if i do say so myself :D
here's some pics

That's looking really good mate. You need to find some perforated carbon wrap for headlight covers so the light shines through.

You're getting the hang of this, Marty.

Less bubbles than a day old pint after a party.

I'll pop it on and see what I think of it in situ, after all I can always go with the graphite option if it doesn't grow on me.
I've always preferred real carbon to the fake stuff, but after all I already have carbon-finished plastic mirrors and indicators, one more bit won't hurt.

But did you weigh the plastic before fitting it, then deduct the weight of the offcuts?

All those little grams add up, you know.....

But if you have a thin tee-shaped offcut that would go onto my headlight to give a twin light effect, that would be good.
Only a thin bit, there's not enough light coming out already

Nice job

Just don't flash the sun tan when you come round, no-one in the uk's got one this year. :Argue 1: :redface

i'll have a spare strip of c/f wrap if you want to try something with the headlight, not sure how it will deal with the heat tho. as for a sun tan, i begin white before turning several shades of red then for a brief moment brown, then its white again
i'll see you when i get back tony....
