one point though, how brittle does fibreglass get in the extreme cold, fast flowing air can become very very cold, especially right next to the carb, hence heater pipes.

Looking very nice, and I like the weight gain as well....
But the silver paint will dissolve in the fuel vapour!

Once I sprayed a bike frame with silver metallic, fitted open bellmouths and couldn't understand why it dripped little silver drips when I stopped and parked. Then the frame went rusty.......

Hammerite was the next choice- much more durable!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

It's not a paint as such as it mostly contains Aluminium. It's also resistant to Acids and Alkali's, not sure about petrol, but Ally is resistant to petrol so I don't see why not. I will have to see how it goes and monitor them once on the bike.

Here's the product http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALU-CHROME-AE ... 41705501ca

According the the Safety Data Sheet the stuff contains ethyl acetate, xylene, butane, Ethylbenzene, butanol, propane, isobutane, aluminium powder (stabilized). I have a feeling it should be OK with fuel.

Could you not spray some petrol through an atomiser gun type thing (old cleaning fluid dispenser or such like) onto a test piece of material with the paint on and see whether the paint resists the petrol?

Probably not a bad idea that, I already have a load of overspray on the newspaper I was spraying them on. It's turned into a Mirror now. I will just pour a small puddle of petrol on and see what happens.
