As for clip on bars. If your finding the standard ones a little too low then you could get some later modelled Storm bars which are Black in colour and have a slightly higher degree rise to them. IIRC I think it's a 7 degree rise. This is what I use and they do make a subtle difference and keep the standard look.

That's what I put on my bike as well, Carl is right they do make a difference. Just quite hard to find second hand, but they do come up on ebay now and again.

I did wonder about this as I know they changed the bars in 2001. So do the later bars fit straight on without the need for any mods to the fairing etc.?
Yes, straight swap, no fairing issues. The only differance is that they are Black and have a 7 degree more rise. It does not look like much when you compare them side by side but it does make a subtle difference.

That sounds like exactly what I am looking for, thanks. Plus it means I can spend hours searching for parts and some relaxing garage time ...that is time well spent

The difference between the later black bars and the earlier ones is approx. 19mm (3/4") higher at the bar end weight end of the handle bars.
