Bottle jack & piece of ply under the sump lifts the front a treat. Note this is in conjunction with a rear paddock stand or Abba stand. On its own it will be too unstable.

It is but it's a lot less hassle than hanging the bike from a rope. Not sure if a headstock stand/jack will allow access to remove the forks but I'd guess it don't and if it did, it would only be in the way.
