Ha ha cheers Mac. I knew that was in the good old USA, I couldn't find the same over here. I was not being serious though, hence the "wink" smiley face at the end

After having a good run around to my local shops I have all but given up on finding a half descent one locally. I'm beginning to think I might just as well buy a cheap one with 12mths warranty for around a tenner. That way if it last 12mths and then goes wrong out of warranty I can throw it away and buy another new one. Not the way I like to do things, but it looks this is the way the market dictates

Funny you should mention that as I have been keeping my eye open for both Aldi and Lidl to list them again. Normally their stuff is German made, so might be better than Chinese made products.

Chris I've just checked my one & there is no ''made in ....'' anywhere in sight !

It states on the label 250 PSI/17 bar & there is http://www.kompernass.com ...Kinda sounds German...

Anyway this one... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-12V-CAR-E ... 2ecda71a56

...looks exactly the same apart from differences to the label & it states 300 psi. I don't remember paying a fiver for it though, IIRC it was more like a tenner. I don't think you could go far wrong at £5.99.

If you can find a free one these days that is.
I know, that's why I put free in bold. I have a Texaco and a Sainsburys garage nearby which both offer free air. I refuse to pay for air.

IIRC I think Lidl's is a German company.

Bad news I'm afraid Carl, as from April 1st the Gov is introducing a new law charging all those living within the M25 for the air they breath...Called the ''Spare Lung Tax'' you'll have to have one of those tests where you blow the thing that measures lung capacity, then they multiply it by 2 & multiply that by Pi if you have two lungs & by slice of Pi if you only have one. Of course if you a smoker your lung capacity will be lower & therefore you'll pay less ''SLT'' so taking this into consideration & despite the fact that you already pay bundles of tax on Tab's N Baccy, smokers will be charged double. As will owners of gas guzzling motahs with Hoooooog carb's & not nice green Fi vehicles. All this despite the fact that breathing the air anywhere within the M25 is still full of particulates n shite anyway. Apparently If you can hold your breath all day your exempt on Sunday.

It is but they don't make the stuff they just sell it, just like any other supermarket.

You jest but that is exactly what may happen one day with the way things are going in this country. I realise we are not paying for the air exactly, but the maintenance of the compressor. You never know but one day the world may suffer from such extreme global warming that we will all live under giant domes where air is filtered through to us. We may then be charged for it.

Lung capacity would be Peek flow.

Cough cough, getting back on track, this compressor is German made and is advertised as "THIS IS A HIGH QUALITY GERMAN PRODUCT" so perhaps they are not all junk  Although this is well above my budget really.

Hey guys, forget the wimpy compressors using the cigarette lighter adaptors. I've go 4x4 and we swear by the heavy duty stuff using the crocodile clips. Wire gauges are too small for the current draw when pumping up large 4x4 tyres. see link http://www.bushranger.com.au/compressor_range.php

these are what i'm talking about. i suggest that you rock up to your nearest 4x4 off road supplier and they should have one for a reasonable price. i've used plenty of plasticky cigarette lighter compressors, they overheat at the compressor cylinder and seize up , wires melt due to the current draw if pumping for more than 5 minutes and they take forever to inflate a 10.5 x 31" off road tyre.

go and get a real man's compressor.
