Why?
Rivnuts mean an even bigger hole than necessary is needed.
If you're that fussed, have a circular disc welded on each side and drill through that.

But if threading a thin section use fine threads- more meat to grip onto.
Welding is not really much of an option as I don't know anyone who does ally welding around my area. My choice of preferring rivnuts is based on it being more secure than just drilling and tapping the hole in my swingarm.

Ok, but why do you need more secure?
I fitted drilled and tapped (M8 Fine) ones years ago, and despite being on and off the paddock stands almost daily ever since they're still secure.
Including sitting on it while on the stands.

So to me, anything more is overkill.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Bertiw you can borrow mine and some Rivinuts. You can do it with a nut and bolt and washer. Let me know if I can be of help.

Thanks Simo. Would it still work with a nut, bolt and washer on a swingarm with not drilling all the way through it?

I agree however I don't have a tap and die set, and also the bobbins I have aren't fine thread, hence I thought the rivnuts are a better solution to my problem.

I've done it before but it's no trouble borrowing the tool and I'll give you the Rivinuts.

Two problems with drilling all the way through...

1/ The Sprocket...Is there clearance ?

2/ The Calliper mounting plate...It needs to move unless you don't want to ever adjust your chain again you cant bolt through it.

I'm with Tony on this one drill & tap it.
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

No need to drill right through, drill hole, knock Rivinut in, run the nut up the bolt, put flat washer on bolt, screw bolt into Rivinut , ring spanner on bolt, with open end spanner wind nut up tight . Unscrew bolt and fit bobbin. That's as long as you're using alloy Rivinuts.

My bobbins are mainly just for looks as I use an Abba stand. Nice to have them there though just in case I'm ever anywhere where a paddock stand is the only option.
