How much is it worth?
Re: How much is it worth?
At the end of the day it's worth whats someones prepared to pay for it, not ness. what the owner thinks its worth...
The trend now for ''older'' bikes is that people are looking for bog standard, as it came from the factory, not a bolt on in sight...(Belive it or not even down to period tyres...) As they is more for looking & polishing than riding... Regaredless of the fact that as we all know some ''bolt on'' improve the bike.
The Storm is creeping towards this catagory with every passing year...
At the moment Storm prices are in the silly, no stupidly high bracket. One I 've seen recently a '99 (iirc) 10k bike at over £2k...Private not dealer so no waranty ect...
Sorry but regardless of mileage & condition a '98 Storm aint worth £2200...

For feck sake what makes this one worth £2K... ???

Maybe its the 'Wavery'' discs...
So with that in mind Spikenipple...Sorry bud but I doubt you will get what you think it's worth...On this forum as said you wont get much more than £1000 for it as it is...As it's not charging It cant be running fine as you say...Sort that out & ask a realistic £1200 on here or fix it & GumBay it at 1600 & see who bites someone might go for it if it's cheaper that the £2K dreamers out there...
Price rant over...I'll give you £500 for it today...

I imported 2 high mileage bikes from Danielsville (Florida) donkeys years ago, (Yamaha Xv1100 Virago and an old GL1100 wing. The virago with 400,000 KMs (almost 250,000 miles), and the wing had 780,000 Kms wich is about 484,600 miles)
USA is the land of Imperial not metric, they are MPH and have never been KPH. If you imported bikes from Florida with KMS then they were Imported to the USA before hand, possibly from Canada which is KMS or from Japan home market.

Re: How much is it worth?
Yup, both bikes were in definitely in Kms! The only one being a known grey import was the Virago. The wing was titled to the 2nd owner in Florida with Fl plates and papers, with the first keeper registered in Michigan (which is no-where near Canada or Japan-land!) Weird then for that one.popkat wrote:If you imported bikes from Florida with KMS then they were Imported to the USA before hand, possibly from Canada.

Cost more to ship to the UK than it was worth, and I never even broke even when I sold it on. I've ridden quite a few bikes in the states that were kph clocks, stickered with little white numbers to convert to mph. Colorado was one, and a couple of fly and ride hire bikes in Fl that were both in kph.

If it ain't broken...f*ck about with it until it is.

Re: How much is it worth?
Not sure where the bikes you bought came from but they were not US market bikes.
All new vehicles sold in the US are in MPH and miles. You can not buy a new vehicle in this country with KPH clocks.
Most of the stuff you can find here with KPH clocks came from Canada or some with a few "grey market" thrown in from time to time.
As for a 55 MPH speed limit, well true that is what most of the signs say...... though around here if you tried to drive or ride at that speed you would be run down very quickly.
On an "average" day around here I run between 85-90MPH on the freeway. This is just slightly above the average speed of traffic and yes there are some that are passing me at that speed.
Before you ask, no I don't get pulled over for running those speeds, In fact right now I have 0 points on my license.
Oh and not sure where your maps are made but Michigan is on the US\Canada border......or you can't get much closer unless you enter Canada.

Re: How much is it worth?
Myself and quite a few friends have all been into American cars at some point... rarely seen them with kph clocks fitted.. My current car is in kph but I know it's history, was built in Norwood, Ohio but built for the Canadian market.. the original owner who lived on Ontario moved over to the UK and a few years later had his car brought over... then I got me hands on it

Re: How much is it worth?
Well, thar y'go! Never really felt a prior need to look for Michigan on the map, and yup, it's right there beside Canada. 500 miles (ish) from there to Toronto. So, every possibility the bike was Canadian, and was bought by the guy in Michigan? But I don't remember anything at this point on the paperwork that mentioned Canada. Dunno how that would work, so will pass on that one! The 2 hire bikes were both Japanese custom doodahs, as didn't want to be the same as most folk who "hire a Harley". If ALL speeds are in mph (in all states), why are the clocks not legally obliged to be changed over? Are the coppers or DMV quite relaxed about it? I take it it's quite all right to just have stickers over the kph numbers? In the UK, we used to get Japanese grey imports with kph clocks (little 400cc things), and just stickered over the numbers for the MOT. Haven't seen an import bike with sticky numbers for years, but not having surfed ebay, I take it they still sell em. Gonna have a surf later, just to satisfy me curiosity!
I was kinda taking the p1ss with the 55mph, suggesting that the storm would never get to proper speed, and thus should last forever!

As for the clocks question, it is actually pretty rare to see something with a KPH set up.
The fix is the sticker overlay just like you guys.
