Ok today the wrist came out of the cast...for good Hooray !
I also had the K wire pulled out...now I did promise to vid this for your sadistic pleasure but TBH it happened so quickly A/It wasnt worth seeing. B/ it didn't hurt or even slightly smart. C/I hadn't even fired up the vid & he had whipped it out.
Sill I do have a strange lump that has formed, new skin has grown up around the wire...bit like a volcano cone...
I will pull the dressing off tomorrow to inspect & photo.
I have a nice scaly skin on the back of my hand & the palm was gross with dead skin about 5 layers thick, picked that off sitting waiting for the train...very cathartic.
I'm pretty sure that after all the op's & agg that the wrist is still not in the correct position, it looks as if it is still dislocated, doesn't hurt as such but has very little movement, only a few degrees down & hardly any movement up & no power to grip at all, cant even squish me squishy stress ball ...
Sill physio on Mon & Wed's.
Tom Tanks still off the menu for a while at least ...
One blurry pic of today's x-ray...Left hand is today Right is last x-ray with wire in place...

There's a definite improvement there Mac. You can see where the bone has joined up and is healing/re-growing.

Sounds like you're making progress
Will the plates remain a permanent feature? Or will they stay a bit longer?
....and when did you start driving tanks?

Hi bud (butty

)
Don't worry about the odd position, when my hand came out of cast because I smashed my thumb on the bike (well, technically I smashed the thumb OFF the bike) it was like someone else's hand. When you have a break all the flesh around it swells up like a womble, it takes weeks for it to go down again.
Also-get squishing the stress ball, it's REALLY important. The more you do it the less it hurts, and the quicker it gets back to normal. When I went for first physio I couldn't even get the grip meter to register movement with my thumb, but after 2 weeks squishing it was almost back to normal. I started off by squeezing empty maccers coffee cups as they were easier than the soft toy, only took a few days before I could crush a paper cup! ;)
The point they made to me was that if you don't do the movements till they really hurt, you might get restricted movement permanently.
Glad they were able to remake you though, they obviously 'have the technology'

The carbuncle that has grown on me arm around the K wire...
Nice Eh ?
Scale wise it's about 8mm across, apparently it should disappear over time...
It looks like a giant zit & no despite trying I couldn't squeeze the pus out, maybe I'm using the wrong technique...any tips Virt ?

They'll get you praying literally - placing your hands together and getting you to flex the wrists.
Perform exercises slowly and gently to begin with.
What symptoms could I experience when my plaster /external fixator is removed?
It is normal for the wrist to feel uncomfortable, achy and stiff after the plaster has been removed. The following symptoms are common
• Discomfort
• Altered shape of the wrist
• Swelling
• Stiffness
• Weakness
• Tingling, pins & needles, numbness
• Dry skin
• Dark hairs
• Discoloration
When I broke my left wrist I was soon after the plaster was off holding a cricket bat one-handed with the damaged hand and 'playing' strokes'' so to build up strength and flexibility - by the next season I was playing as normal again . i.e still crap!...

Alright Dude, yeah I will be persevering with the stress ball, although I might have to start with crushing grapes ...!
BTW for everyone out there...apparently ''Butty'' is a term used by our Welsh brethren as a greeting to friends...
I did explain to Matty that to me it means a sandwich. As in bacon butty...
I'm not sure however if it works as a greeting to Ovis Aries Lloydie...

Yeah I've been trying some strokes, but I can only keep it up for about 3 mins...

Yuk that spot looks disgusting, can't your slice the arm open to make it all look better.

If that is really full of puss you may want to take a sterile scalpal blade to it and give it all a good flush through. That's what I would do anyway. Where's the district nurse when you need one.
