Part of me thinks I should leave well alone, but it bugs me every time I life the seat.

Chris, so am I!!!!

On the sub harness to the starter relay, under the silver duct tape bodge that bundled the 4 wires together, there was one of the smaller of the wires which had been cut and spliced to a wire that was subsequently removed, and that wasn't even taped over .... Just exposed copper and solder.

I will peal each silver bomb open and evaluate the risk of just wrapping with proper harness tape, or if I need to cut it out and repair with a new solder joint and heat shrink.

Alarms back then were just a waste of time. :(

If your stuck Al I have a loom that has had the clocks and light wires hacked, but you could use the rest of the wires to splice/ solder/ heat shrink to your loom if it’s any use to you? I just kept it for spares, here if you want it mate.

Solder, I wasn't expecting to hear that
That's good news in one way, just a shame they didn't use some heat shrink tubing at the time,

I started stripping the knackered stage 1 engine today and I think I've had a bit of a result. No signs of valve to piston contact, straight valves and cams looking good. The bores look alright too so fingers crossed the pistons are not scored.

Removed yet more (self fermenting) windfall fruit from my covered vtr.
Good job the bike is made of strong stuff as they come down with some serious force!

Gave bike it's first proper clean (spray polish and duster),looks lovely.

Spent some quality time hunting for the dipstick .........

Worked out how to get seat off .......

Ordered bar ends and those little chrome exhaust pipe shields as there's a generous portion of melted shoe already on the pipes ....

And then managed to get some stuff called petrol, remember that?

And then the rain came down!

Went for a ride and got caught out by shower, luckily the rain wasn't too heavy and only lasted for 5 miles or so:
