adding a K&N will lean off the mixture as it is less restrictive, hence you need to jet up. conversly if your bike is set up for a K&N and you go back to standard you will use more fuel..........well mine did

So basically if you jetting was standard when you got the bike and someone just chucked a K&N on then you wont have to re-jet when putting the standard filter on. But you wont know what you set up is unless you open the carbs up to look.

At the moment I am running a K&N with a factory pro jet kit. I have a spare set of carbs which I'm going to run with a standard filter. I will most probably set them up according to hawks carb set up on the superhawk site http://www.superhawkforum.com/forums/te ... -up-24769/

My fuel consumption is pretty bad with a clean K&N, so I'm considering trying a standard filter as I've never tried one and a re-jetting to suit. I currently get an average of around 80miles and the light light comes on. I can keep riding with the light on to about 100miles but then I need to fill up quick before I'm running on fumes.

I was going to ask the same question. Is the standard filter more economical than a k&n?

I have a k&n, but not sure that there was any carb/jet mods done when it went on. If i went back to oem would I need to do any adjustments? i appreciate the obvious answer is to try it and see, but that's just too easy

Must be fun riding in SA, but do you not have any security issues when out and about or are you tooled up? :D
Sa is great to ride around in. Never had any problems other than the usual " but i didn't see you" drivers.
The criminals here are not big on bikes :?

A bit of the country on a VTR, skip the first 10 min as its boring.

Did a trip of 2000km +-, took a time lapse with my cellphone attached to the tank and comped them together when the trip was done. About 3 minutes in i figured the cellphone could take
higher than HD timelapse (you will see quality difference) stream gps and bluetooth music. Worked well.

For those that wanna do something similar
Phone : Samsung note
App: Tina timelapse @ 1 frame per 5 seconds

TBH i looked at getting a K@N and looked at getting the original Honda one but both were expensive, but i found a place selling them for R200.00. (aftermarket)
It's pissing down here at the moment so i haven't ridden til light , so as yet i don't know how long I've got until the red light of doom, but on 160km so far and going good:)

Good video and a great idea

Some amazing scenery there, pity all the roads seem to be straight

3 days for a tyre? Might want to try this, thoroughly recommended, though I doubt you'll find it in SA. Might be able to import or find something similiar.

LOL, yeah was actually a crummy trip.

Had nobody to repair the tire (they refused to put a plug in) so i used something called tireweld (same principal as linked)which closed a 4mm hole, then i bolted for home (+-400km) at about 120 - 140 hoping to avoid the rain.(rated to 100kph , but it worked)
Got home and found i had a tight spot in the chain (I just happened to tension the chain at it's loosest spot when i left) which had in turn Crunched the wheel bearing... scary.
(also explains why i could only get 190 in a section i tried)
Drive bearing seemed ok... so excluding petrol, accommodation and food it cost me a new tire (Michelin power pure) , and new sprockets and chain. expensive  ) .

And to top it off the last 400km is the best scenery of the trip. :D , which i blasted through.

So, i have learnt, check chain tension the whole way round the drive and the new michelin (front and back ) dual compound is a fantastic tire, it sticks like S### when warmed up.

...still working the chicken strips down from 10mm, lol.
