Cheers Seb. The wheels are allright actually, they just need a good clean. Forks and swingarm will be the next thing to sort out. I wont be doing that this side of Christmas though.
I'm just pleased to have a second bike up and running so I can take the frame of my VTR at some stage without having no transport.

i see the forks have rust and pitted you can remove most of that with scrunched up kitchen foil, it works a treat.

Works even better if you add coke ( the drink not the powder) full sugar, none of the low fat rubbish. Seriously this and tin foil is what I use on my old KH125 to lift rust spots off the exhaust and wheel rims.

And a few drops of lemon juice also helps to remove lime scale on engines

i've heard the acid in your wee will help degrease your wheels prior to paint.........

I've not heard of Kitchen foil being used before, coke makes sense as it's better than vinegar. I've thrown coke down the toilet before to clean it and it's shocking how good it is. Makes me wonder why I drink the stuff.

I might have to give that a go, I was just intending on removing them and getting the wire brush out and painting them in Hammerite or something.

Argh I misunderstood that then I was wondering what to do about the stanchions. OK foil and some coke is defo worth a try then. Then maybe a blue rubbing compound polishing block. I might have a go at it over the weekend if the weather is good. It might even inspire me to sort out the lowers as well.

Have you been following links again Chris.

The worst bit was applying the decals as there is one chance to stick them on straight. Even then I was not sure how the lacquer would apply/react to them so was dreading the thought of it all blistering and having to start rubbing down and spraying again. I gave the first few coats of lacquer a dusting of spray and applied it very sparingly and let it dry before going over with thicker coats. I got lucky.

I had a feeling you may comment when I posted the pic

It was all done with rattle cans, I used Simoniz paint, lots of wet n dry and for polish I used the Menzerna range.
