Update

Post by Squiffythewombat »

Sorry for the delays, have been very busy, finally got some pics of how the chain is coming up (removal pics coming when im on the right pc)

Image
Before and after shot, the right hand section has had 10 minutes hardcore scrubbing with wd40 and a brillo pad (nothing else will shift the rust ben)

A different view

A close up of the cleaned section, as you can see not all the rust is removed and there still very small areas with it on! Getting right to the edge of the rollers is really hard!

So should i just give up now and get a new chain or is this one still useable? It has no tight spots and moves freely as far as im aware but the slight pitting and rust remains after cleaning im worried about.

My front sprocket is also UBER rusty, should i be concerned about this?

On the up side, the wheels have been analy cleaned and are now gleaming aside from the odd stone chip! The seat has been cleaned and is ready for re-fitting along with the rear fairing! Left foot peg lies in front of me ready to be tackle with some wet and dry and polish! Right will soon recieve the same treatment!

Thanks again for all your help guys, ill get the removal pics up when i can, im still surprised i manged to get the chain off without removing the sprocket!

Oh its ok mate, I'll let you off
At least you've used plenty of wd40 to lubricate it

I wouldn't worry about a bit of rust on the rollers -after a few miles it'll probably either come clean or be covered in road grime anyway! :-)

Nah, its only gonna be surface rust. A quick scrub and a wipe with wd40 should be fine
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!
