Nice car, it just a shame it's Silver  I bet you have some some nice alloy wheels on that. What's it like to maintain and buy parts for over here?

Today I put the freshly painted bodywork back on my Fazer http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26335

cybercarl wrote:Manual says it should be done at 350rpm so did you turn the idle speed down for the test. I don't know what the service limit is for it or how much is low where it's a problem. But the gauge is indicating (as it's in the green area) that it's OK, so I would have thought that 150 it not bad bad but is a little low for my liking and if it was me I would investigate further.

The problem is a compression test is not gonna tell you where the wear is, either in the block or top end in the head. The only way to know if it's pistons is to check the tolerances. But if it was pistons I would have thought that one cylinder would be worse than the other.

This is one for Tony to answer.

I test using the leccy start, both plugs out and WOT.
Mostly you get a reading not far off from yours.
No need for any work.
As has been said, a couple of cc's of oil down the bore and repeat the test. If it's lots better it means rings or bore wear, if it's much the same the wear is in the valve seats.
But no need to do this on yours.

TBH the time to worry is when one cyl's a lot different to the other.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

It would be interesting to get some readings from Marty's bike and compare them with Lloydies. Both feel there are issues with their motors, but Marty's gives a strong odour of burnt oil on the over run.
Marty, have you ever done a compression check on yours?

spent sunday riding trials bike in a competition over in Shropshire, been too long since I had ridden real sectons and I had forgotton how sh1t I was! ......winter series starting soon so time to practice again.

I can only repeat what I say every year, Trials may be one of the best fun, lowest cost forms of motorbike sport ever invented. you all need to try it, it will help your riding on a roadbike and its as tough as you want it to be.
