I might be able to make this now :)

How much effort is it to replace the steering bearings. I got an advisory on the MOT "Steering movement slightly notchy"

Plus help with the CCTs would be wonderful

its a relatively easy job assuming you can get the front jacked up.... your usual front stand is no good as the forks & yokes have to come off.

easiest way is to suspend from above (imo)
they you need a dremel or somethin to get the bottom race off the yoke.
apart from that, doddle.
new taper set is about £30 for top & bottom bearings.

main cause for fkt bearings btw is rough wheelie landings.....

Geo, steering brgs are do able in a day, and I have an ABBA stand, so easy to get front end up so we can set about it with a hammer. got grinder and dremmel too. Make sure you get a taper kit, not worth all the work just to fit the same old cup & cone. I know the kit from WEMOTO works and has all the correct seals and bearings........get that one.

Waggy, if you cant get manual CCT's we can still do the stopper mod on the standard Honda ones, that will make them fail safe, and what you learn will allow you to fit the maunals later if you still want to. I think the auto adjuster is a good idea, so I run with the stopper mod, but thats just my view.

Good point to remind all that you need to make sure you have all the parts you think you might need, I can provide tools and basics like loctite, grease and instant gasket..............and I will have Bennys shim set........the rest you need to bring with you :)

nothing needed for that, I have some aluminium that we can cut to length. Just make sure that you can remove the 2 inspection covers on the alternator cover before you turn up, if you cant get them off, make sure you order a new one as we might have to take a hammer to it to get it off. Search on the subject and you will see a heat gun is a good option to get the cover warmer than the inspection cover..........but dont go so hot you damage teh coating.

AMCQ what do you think of replacing my ccts with the proceeded part number of genuine honda ccts with the stopper mod, if i carnt get the manual ccts, as i only do about 2000 miles a year, so they should last a while and be safe, please let me know youre thoughts, all the best, Malc....

That will work fine, but if your bike has lowish milage just fixing the ones that are fitted is also ok [that all I did, but I am a tight git].
PS for me less that 20,000 is low ish

they didnt have the USA all balls option when I bought mine, so I can only comment on the Japan option.........they both have the matching seals so both should be fine
