Sometimes it will rev up as I turn the throttle and other times it will not. Ticks over OK but sometimes it dies a couple of minuets later. Made sure I have fuel coming out both sides of the fuel tap and everything is connected.
These are the exact symptoms I had when I reconnected the vacuum hose in the wrong place.
taking bets on this whos game ?
I hope you're right for Chris's sake.

chris the vac pipe fits on the back of the tap behind the fuel pipes .
its on the horizontal and cant be seen with the front of the tank lifted .
you will need to feel for it . its on the left hand side of the tap as you sit on the bike behind the left hand side fuel pipe .

When I took the hoses off the tap and pressed the ignition there was quite a bit of fuel coming out
That sounds about right as it will be under the vacuum if turning over. But the diaphram may have a small split in it and not functioning properly.

Also make sure that it's a tight fit and there are no cracks or leaks in the vacuum hose.

To test the diaphragm inside the petcock which works alongside the vacuum. pull the vacuum line off the cylinder end and suck on it. As it is connected to the petcock diaphragm you will be able to create a vacuum in the line. If you cannot get a vacuum and air just sucks through continuously, then the petcock diaphragm is not operating properly.

Here's a pic of how it all should look.

It may be worth checking you turned the fuel tap back on fully. If it was only half turned on it would not feed as much fuel to the carbs.

FIXED IT :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :D

It was that barstool of a vacume pipe wasn't it. Had it on the 6 o'clock position on the fuel tap not the 9 o'clock position. All that work and worry for nothing :x

All working fine now. Been to fill her with fuel and tested all through the rev range through all gears and she is running a beauty again. On the upside to stripping the bike complety I now know more about the bike and how everything fits together

Thanks for all the help guys, pitty there was a complete twasark doing the job haha

Different colour paint pens are good - you can put a little dot on things so you know where they come from.

Well done for not panicking (too much) and just getting on and sorting it

Had a little moment earlier when I fitted my new ignition advance plate

Impact wrench whizzed the nut off no problem but springs went flying everywhere

A right bitch getting them back in to - would have been easier taking the clutch off but I don't have a clutch basket tool so thought I would be digging a deeper hole.....

Got them back in and all back together (except fairing). Started ok and idled until fan kicked in on plain water, all seems fine so will drain again tomorrow and fill with fresh anti-freeze.

Don't want to put the fairing back on yet, got another couple of jobs to do.

I was sure you knew that trick from last time, but lloydie says it was turning on the fuel tap the twofold you forgot! , so that was why it wasn't top of my list. Sorry for making you take it all apart again :(

I had a feeling from the word goes it was a fuel issue but could not figure it out. Got to learn one way or another. Least I shall know if i ever have to take it off again. Remembered to turn the fuel tap back on after the first time

My fault probably  But lessons learned all round. Bike is up and running and Chris is going to have a nice ride out with the lads next week.

D'you know what, sometimes I think the best mod for a Storm is to hacksaw that drain pipe off entirely.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
