next tedious, but bizarrely satisfying, mod was to put stainless bolts in the engine side covers. Nowt wrong with the original ones - they even still looked OK - but I like the shiny stainless thing, so just went ahead and did it.

Not much to say, bolts out, bolts in:

If you like shiny, you should take out the two Allen key nuts in the gen cover and give them a good polish, or contact mark to see if he has anymore titanium ones for sale?
If you do take out the originals, just be gentle as they're made of swiss cheese steel, but if you destroy them, I have spares...

Probably a bit excessive even for me, AP :)

Time to get the manual CCTs fitted. Needed a few other bits of engine work done, so time to accept I need professional help (not least as I don't have tools, time or space for serious engine work). So, CCTs changed, carbs cleaned and balanced, valve clearances checked (and oil and filter at the same time). Know the mechanic well, and he obliged with a few pictures along the way:

Now, hopefully I can just ride the thing for a bit

Looks like it going by the length of the thread on the rear tensioner. The front will have a slightly longer thread.

"Want" is such an emotive word, isn't it!?

You're right Carl, I don't - but I must. My next project - one I've been contemplating for many years - landed in my lap recently and I can't keep 'em all (the wife says so.. :Argue: .). With my trackbike already gone, I need something with a bit more of an emotional connection to keep me off the trackday route...

well, as the replacement user-up of garage space is a Ducati 750SS, I'll be keeping a close eye on Flatline's progress at the very least :)

At least on the Ducati forums, there's less arguments about colour

You must change the head stock bearings to tapered one's, only £20 for the kit,but makes a big difference, grease linkage at bottom of rear shocker.
