So uhh.. spend 3 hours stripping down the VTR to do the stopper mod.. Then dad had a go at me, so I had to rebuild it all. So all I've done today, basically, is take an old & dried leaf out of the air box.. Started up the bike and ran it to the redline though so I didn't end up breaking it, which is always good. :(

oh yes, theres a solution tho young virt, buy a secondhand varadero 1000 fuel spigot, this has an on/off switch built in....
heres a link for you
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-XL1000- ... 41671aa67e
you only need one of them, you could team up with another forum member and split the price.....
it should make stopping the flow of petrol and making it alot easier to remove the tank....

Can't afford it right now, all my dreams of modding and running both my hornet and vtr rest purely upon my interview tomorrow as it's currently the only one I have planned :( It's much nicer having a more constant stream of interviews. I still need to pay AMcQ for the dyno day for me and my dad as well D: I hate being a student  We just drained it into containers and then put it back into the tank afterwards, lost a little bit of petrol but oh well :p

No we wouldn't. Finding some cleaning stuff for it now, all thanks to Chric  so it should stay. The items he's suggested so far all have good feedback against scratches and liquids of all sorts so whenever I next hear back and have money the paint job is definitely not gonna be going any time soon.

Ha, thanks :D  I'll try and imagine the interviewer naked, just gotta hope lloydie and Al don't get too jealous

Did you manage to undo the generator caps. You should make sure they undo because if that big centre one is seized on, which they have a habit of doing, then that is a job in itself.

As BSM it's all a learning curve and getting to know the bike inside and out  So why did your dad stop you. Does he not want you to do the stopper mod.

I did do them yeah, took me a short while cause they were as stiff as the hulk on viagra. But I took them off.

He gave a plethora of reasons.. Apparently it's not the right time cause we're moving out soon and have more important things (nothing is more important to me than my dream bike.. geniunely  ). That delving into CCT's was too much for me with my mechanical experience or lack of it (although I think I was doing quite well and the bike runs fine after putting it back together. no misfires or strange noises, even managed to get the front wheel off the ground by about an inch by running it across the courtyard to check it was okay) and that because Honda have such good build quality the CCT's would be fine and wouldn't need replacing. They only get broken by people revving the tits off it, up to the limiter and then trying to change down gears without the clutch.. I can see where he's coming from, but considering my current bike has manual CCT's because the originals broke randomly his argument is somewhat invalid. I also don't want to get a phone call when he moves to bristol and takes the bike with him (  ) saying they have broken and the engine is ferked so much... Because I'm not paying for the engine rebuild. I tried.
Rant over :P needless to say though I am rather pissed off. I did say last week I was tearing the bike apart today and he didn't have a complaint then

Got out again today (2nd day in a row) and rode the hell out of the storm, with the missus on the back. Bike is feeling great now I have changed my riding position and moving around the road a lot more. Did not have a single corner where I froze part way through or started to feel nervous. Was not hanging around either. Had some nice speed and did a few roads I did not know to test myself. The chicken strips are coming down nicely too. Only about 5mm on each side now which I am happy to leave there so I am not all the way over one day and then need that little bit more which I would not have.

When out yesterday the coppers and there blade were at Matlock so we stopped to have a look, the main reason of course was the fish and chips

Spent nearly 6 hours on the bike yesterday inc stops. Today was only 3 hours. Had a good time as there is no place I would rather be.

Thank you to those who have given advice on riding tips and tricks. They have come very in handy

I left my engine for a week tops, before just whipping the APE CCT's out to sell to BSM didn't turn or set the engine etc as it wouldn't be getting used again, just whipped them out for the sale as it was sat.

I should have took a picture as most people won't have just taken them out as they sit,

The front was bone dry after just a week of being stood in the garage! and the rear was all nice and oily

..... anyone watching this moto2 right now all i can say is wow!!

He's as stubborn as they come, which is where I somewhat inherited it from, but I'll have a go when he's not in a mood at me  Thanks. Like I said though, as soon as I get it back from him in October I will do it if it hasn't exploded by then, and if it explodes in his care well wombles him he can pay. At least I tried to fix it
