What happened to the double glazing, pebble dashing and lean to ???cybercarl wrote:Made a start on upgrading/servicing my forks.
All stripped down.
Drained the old manky fork oil which looked like a dirty milky colour.
Removed the cartridge and rebound rod.
Removed all the valveing inside the cartridge so I can drill my 1mm relief hole a de-burr the inside.
The outside bushes did look a worn and needed changing but the inside ones that sits around the base of the stanchions looked perfectly fine but I changed them anyway.
I also spent quite a bit of time scrubbing and cleaning the front of the engine and stuff while I had easy access.
Tomorrow I shall taper the rebound rod, drill my relief hole, cut 10mm of the spacers and start rebuilding them.

The pebble dashing I have noticed has started to peel where I have it on the water pump housing
I'm going to have to re-think that one. Maybe just get the casings powdercoated.
Today I have finished my forks.
Tapered rebound rods.

Cut 10mm off the spacers.

And drilled the 1mm relief hole in each cartridge.

I also painted the adjusters Gold.

Then rebuild time.

New oil and dust seals.

7.5w fork oil and air gap set to 140mm then Racetech springs and spacers etc put in.

And bike back together.

While I was at it, I gave my callipers a good scrub up and oiled/spun all the bobbins on the discs. What a pain in the butt job that it
I also gave the disc a quick once over with some wet n dry to roughen them up a bit and remove some of the sheen.
Oh and notice how by calliper bolt and stuff don't look rusty anymore.

Carl I'm sending my bike your way for some paint work and some other bits and pieces
Does look good. Will look even better when it's all back together.

yeah good stuff carl - what paint did you use??? Thinking when I get round to tidying mine red tops would look peachy

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Yes I have got some fake carbon fork protectors to go on.
I used brake calliper paint for the black

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
just sitting on the bike and putting weight/pressure on the forks, you can feel the difference, before you could make the forks bottom out, now they feel progressive and firm, you certainly can't make them bottom out at a standstill, they fell as solid as my cbr954 forks....

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Actually the rear shock is not to bad for me. I have it on the lowest (softest) setting and since doing the forks I think that is too soft, so might even move it up a notch. So no hurry for a rear shock but one day I would like some that is easy to adjust. I want to swap the 6mm spacer for a 3 now as well. I lowered the forks 5mm. I just going to experiment with the settings front and rear and find what feels right.now you just need a good rear shock :-
