MWR Racing filters
Re: MWR Racing filters
Fit it in the meantime and do a back-to-back ride, let us know what it feels like.
Fuelling might not be spot on until it's been set up, so if it's not clean throughout the range don't give up quite yet!
Mine's going in this weekend.

Re: MWR Racing filters
Ok, so been and changed the filter, all excited jumps on bike, and .................................
........dreadful
On tickover and very low revs not much to notice
However open it up and........................................nothing, nowt, denada, zip, fookall
It coughs and splutters
But there's a huge intake ROAR
Let's see what Mr Dynoman says when I can get it down to him

Re: MWR Racing filters
Tried the above without the airbox top, so that's the next thing to try
Re: MWR Racing filters
Not a good start....you did remember to take it out of the pastic wrapper didn't you?
Still hoping these will work, so let's hope it all gets sorted on the dyno

Re: MWR Racing filters
Oh shite
Thought it was supposed to stay on and protect the filter, so much for my bright idea
Hang on I will go out and try again...................
..........................
..........................
(Some time later)
Cough....splutter....pop....bang bang
Sorry about that, rough night
No, still the same
Wilco reckons its getting maybe 5 times the amount of air, so it's the dynoman for me

Re: MWR Racing filters
will water ingress be an issue?
it looks the nutzzzzz, lets hope with some dyno time your bike might get over the 110 mark.....mmmmm

Re: MWR Racing filters
Fitted it today, and can definitely confirm that it doesn't work without the airbox lid.
But with the lid on, it adds just enough to the height so that the front tank fittings need to have spacers; the tank sits about 15mm higher.
No biggie, really.
So how does it run?
Not cleanly, compared to the K&N I normally run, in the slightly larger and emptied airbox I use.
But not bad, no obvious noise differences, and I'm going to have to get it on the dyno and set up with jets to suit the MWR; and see what the power and torque curves compare once the fuelling has been corrected.
One interesting thing, I tried a killswitch backfire, and the engine took about ten seconds to start to fire again- I was beginning to wonder if it would come back.....
I couldn't help myself; a couple of walkers watched me go past and the female one put her hands over her ears as I came towards them- you can't resist those sort of opportunities.

Re: MWR Racing filters
so you reckon even with dyno work the mwr won't work without the top of the airbox?
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: MWR Racing filters
Don't know yet; had some additional info from MWR and will keep playing for a week or so.
Early days as yet...
But if it will work without a lid, it'll certainly need jetting, it's much too weak set up as is (for a K+N).

Re: MWR Racing filters
i need to get my bike set up properly anyway tony, tall velocity stacks, dynojet kit and full race exhaust, as you know i've got a k&n aswell, so for me to use the mwr wouldn't be a problem, i would love to to be able to do it soon, any idea's when it will be avaliable to us poor civilians......

Re: MWR Racing filters
I rode my bike about 20 km with the airbox lid off (as per Roger D) and a K&N in place (without changing the jetting, it was on its way to the shop for a dyno tune) and it ran horribly. While it seemed to idle well, it positively fell on its face when given throttle while in motion. My tech tried various combos but never got it working (and I got tired of paying for dyno time...). Seems running the MWR lid-less will also require some extensive re-jetting, although perhaps (hopefully?) it will prove easier to tune. Time will tell I guess.....

Re: MWR Racing filters
Im guessing that the idea of the plate so close to the filter element is to act as the air box lid so doing away with the need to have the standard one on there and providing a much larger space undertake tank for air to be taken from, also the notion of fitting a large vfr tank tickles me I will defiantly have one if they prove worthwhile.

Re: MWR Racing filters
the NC30 HRC mod turns the underside of the tank in to an air box. as standard they WILL NOT run without a lid.
the air jets needed to be sleeved down by half to get anywhere near. ill see if i can find a reference
