EGG,
That'll be your selector drum not moving the selector forks enough to fully engage the dogs on the gearbox sprockets. Try backing off just a tiny bit more as you change gear. If not then your will eventually wear the selector drum badly, bend a selector fork or take the corners off the dogs. Then I'll have to fix it all. Once it starts jumping out if second when your riding normally give us a call cos it's done hill from there.

Essex Bloke,
Wheelies ain't big or clever.

Hi!
I tried this week end to film with a camera fixed on my tank. riding horizontally, image is good but in wheelies, it's just film the sky and the lamps (light of street). and when i put down the chock troubled the image 1/4 of second in spite of the clothes i put between the tank and the camera to damp chocks and vibrations.
If you have a solution for me, please.
Welshy,
your vid is very clear, can yon explain me how you did? if you could answer to my questions (at the end of page 5 of this subject). :?: :?: :?:
thanks :P :)

Sorry BP Team, thought I had already replied.

BP Team wrote -

1°) where and how do you fix your camera on the bike
2°) what angle did you choose to make possible to film the road when you drive "cool" and when you are on the rear wheel?
3°) do you protect the objectif (glasses) of the camera from the flies (butterflies, thraws...)
4°) did you protect the camera from the vibration and from chocks( chocks of putting down especially). how if yes?

Welshys' reply

1) I have a Cannon MV500i with AV in. This allows you to attach a helmet lens to the camera (http://www.HelmetCamera.com). The Video Camera then goes in a bumbag/rucksack.
2) The helmet cam has been taped to the mirror on the right hand side. Positioned slightly downwards as there's no point filming the sky. 15% sky, 85% road ahead. You can't point your camera down from the tank as it won't look through the screen.
3) Yes. There is a protective covering on the lens. Can also get one to stop sun glare.
4) This is not a problem as it's in the rucksack/bumbag and does not get affected by this.

When we didn't have the helmet cam we used to use a modified tank bag with bungee cords and some foam inside to keep still. Have you tried a camera tank mount (http://www.superbikeconcepts.com/Cammount.html)? Or save your pennies for the helmet cam. It's brill.

Thank you welshy for the answer and for the links. know i anderstand how you did so beautiful vids. i'd like to do it too but we don't have the same values (don't worry it's a french expression!). my cam is just an old HI8 K7 and i don't think that i can fit an helmet lens on my own camera. But it's very interesting and it will be a good idee later... Did you buy it on internet or by a sailer shop?
"When we didn't have the helmet cam we used to use a modified tank bag with bungee cords and some foam inside to keep still. Have you tried a camera tank mount ". i tried to use the tank bag but don't have ,for the time beeing foam to fill it up (just with clothes to damp). But i'll try to improve my system. it think bungee cords means "elastic with hooks", if not i don't know what it is. i also want to try to find a solution to fix my cam on one of my shoulders. This solution may solve the problem of chock when putting down and the problem of recording the sky in wheelies...

I just wanted to add that a usual sunday in your contry seems the same in mine...
A+ guys!

Just bin readin thru all of the posts (yep, bored!) and gotta say, I just have to go and practice wheelies! Only ever managed a few first gear power ups and the odd clutch feathering 2nd gear job, but nowt to write home about! So all this talk of 5000 revs in second and dipping the throttle off n on has to be tried!

Like yer vid Welshy and your pics Oliv' - and the tips from Geoff are now implanted in me brain.

PS, I do websites and as such have plenty of server space if anyone needs somewhere to post piccies or vids for others to view :D

Cheers all and I'll let you know how I get on (or off!)

After some training in 2nd gear acceleration, i don't use the clutch up anymore... happy for my bike cause the clutching up is not the best thing for the bike. so, as much as i train myself doing wheelies, i think the secret is in the timming of shutting off the gas. you have to be quick. and you can add a little tug on the bar ...
after it's just a question of practice and feelings.
for stoppies i've found a new important thing to put up the rear wheel (in order to roll...). i manage 2 times at 80km/h. but have to train again. cause sometimes the front slide... i add an impulse in the tank with my knees in getting up a little my ass. i need practice but hope it'll go on!

Kingster,

Can you let me know the addresse of your website? i've photos that i can e mail to you of me and my friends if you want (wheelies 3 on the bike or other things...). i can't send vids cause i don't have a numeric cam. if it can interest you... and give me the link of your site.
now, i want to do a vid of a friend of mine doing a 1 mile wheelie (1.8km).

Good practice!

Well, boy did I have fun!

Still fekin useless at the 'off the throttle' second gear wheelies, absolutely nowt, but decided to keep trying the 'slip the clutch' jobs and... whoo hoo!

Now, you got to understand that my prowess as a 'wheelie god' is somewhat in it's embryonic stage (er... just been conceived really!), but I did manage a sort of 'balance point' feeling at least twice (couldn't see the road due to fairing) and managed to float the front end down very gently most of the time covering some reasonable distance - 70ft ish (that's about 25m Oliv') - which is loads of distance to a mere mortal like me! Mucho grins! oh how I envy you more experienced one-wheel-kings wot can do 100s of feet/metres/miles

In fact I had sooooo much fun that I forgot how to corner on the way home and the bike was all over the place! No chance of a knee down there then! :D All I could think of was '...second gear, 3 thou, slip clutch, 6 thou, let go, open throttle, yee haaaa...' twas a hoot!

I'd still love to get the second gear, no clutch sorted, cos my clutch was kinda smelling a bit towards the end

Cheers

Chris

Hi,
i've done my first video this week end. first i did a vid with the cam fixed on the tank and took a little road with many turns. in a turn, the feet bar slided on the road, the noise is well recorded on the vid, so my friends can trust me now!
during the afternoon, i took a friend behind me to film my friends. we did a travel arround the city (laval). with a cam all my friends became crazy! the vid is very good. the only problem is that a cops see us and begin to try to follow us (it give a good result on the vidéo, a friend in wheelies for 500m in front of the banalized car of cops making light appeal ...!) he arrested one of us and told that the others were in the swump... and that they will catch us. wombles THEM ! at the end we think that he couldn't do anything cause he were alone in is car, and the other cops don't find them. i expect it's true....
I add musik on the vid' and the result is good for a first try!

i also manage a rolling stoppie with a passenger . i rolled 2 metres it's a good beginning!
if i could also make 1Km wheelies ! I expect to manage one day! in order to do it, i begin to train myself in wheelies standing up on the feet bars. but the first try are affraiding me a little.

Kingster,
1) i'm not sure i anderstood what you told about website and allocating space...
2) can you also tell me the right word for feet bars.
3) i have the same problem with my fairing to see the road. i look by the side, now i'm trying 2 methods :
- putting my soulders a little more far from the bar to drop a little the balance point
- standing up on the feet bars... 8O

enjoy

Hi Oliv'
Kingster,
1) i'm not sure i anderstood what you told about website and allocating space...
2) can you also tell me the right word for feet bars.
1) I can set up a new website (for free) for you (or anyone) to upload video and images. Or, I can let you add video or images (also for free) to an existing site that I have space on already.

2) 'foot-pegs' or just 'pegs' as in.... 'getting the pegs down' or 'scraping the pegs'

Sounds like you had fun! All you need now is a video capture card for a PC and then you can get the video on the web.

CK.

OK kingster!
1°) it's an interesting proposition... i keep it in my minds, it could interest me one day, with my friends
2°) thank you, i like to learn new words like that, (that the dictionary can give you!)
3°) you are right, with the video capture card, but i don't have a PC (i do this text at work...). i already have to buy a personnal computer...
For the time being, i just set my vids on VHS K7 (and add musik during recording). I hope i'll be able to transfert it on numerik after...

salut! :D

UP in Second at about 40, put it down at about the ton in FIFTH..hahahah

The only stupid thing was I did this on the M6 one afternoon last week, just because some lads in a mini bus were "egging me on" and were waving a video camera at me. It was one of those "it just felt soooo right moments." you know, when it comes up easy and hits the balance point straight away, it felt like almost half a mile, I only put it down cos I was aware that the oil might be at the back of the crankcase.

Am putting a video together with a bit of commentary one day next week, if the weather is OK, will post it on my website if anybody wants to download it. It will be at http://www.firestorm.me.uk

The site is not built yet, so dont take the p*ss cos its crap, I dont do website thingies, I have to scab help from those who know how..

Keep it vertical chaps

Smokin J's.

Jesus, 3 gear changes up to 100mph. Bit excessive! I have had it bouncing off the rev limiter in 3rd at 120!! 8O

Do you change into 3rd as soon as it comes up? I try that but it just drops again. Not givin it enough after the gear change for fear of flipping I spose. Would be nice to have a bit of mechanically sympathy like yourself! Must sound so cool though bwarpppp....bwarpppp......bwarppp.

BP.

Sounds like you have been havin fun. When you say 'Numeric' when you are talking about video cameras, do you mean 'Digital'? Better quality and you can download to your computer.

Keep mono-ing guys.....
