like this?https://www.plotaroute.com/route/417040 with the Hawes to settle run addedKermitLeFrog wrote:Looks pretty good to me. However, it might be a good idea to miss out Richmond (which can be very busy) on the run north and perhaps go through Reeth on the way to Barnard Castle. That cuts out the A66 as well.AMCQ46 wrote:Ian / flatty,AMCQ46 wrote:I if someone can post a gpx file of the route then I can out in on the garmin and do back marker duty if needed
is this the route?https://www.plotaroute.com/route/417040
When you get to Hexham and cross the A69 heading north it may be better to bear left at the Boatside pub. Going straight on takes you up Homer's Lane which is very narrow and gravelly with quite a few horses on the road. The direct road to Fourstones is a better biking road.
The Haydon Bridge, Alston Melmerby and back to Alston bit is spot on. As is the head south to Middleton.
Flattie knows the first bit, north to Barnard Castle better than me and t'would be good to hear his thoughts.
There are plenty of fuel stops on the way.

Both of those look good to me. I don't know the Hawes area very well so can't make any worthwhile comments. The run north looks OK though.

The roads around Hawes are excellent, I was up that way last Thursday, Flattline will know the roads I'm on about.KermitLeFrog wrote:Both of those look good to me. I don't know the Hawes area very well so can't make any worthwhile comments. The run north looks OK though.
You could even extend it further by going from Hawes>>>Ribble Head>>>Settle>>>Ingleton>>>Kirby Lonsdale>>>Sedburgh>>>Kirby Stephen, then back on original route.

Perhaps miss out the run to Barnard Castle and head southwest towards Settle then head north through Hawes and take the Stanhope road from Middleton up to Hexham?
So many choices....

Getting close now, started laying out what's need for the weekend.
Re: Op Storm III: Yorkshire Dales 18-21 May 2017
if we had the shorter one of the routes as the default [184miles OP Storm V2], then if we are going well on time / energy / weather, then when we get to Kirby S on the return leg we can decide if we go Sedbergh -> Settle, Ribbleshead & Hawes as the last segment for an extra 50 miles.cheekykev wrote:The roads around Hawes are excellent, I was up that way last Thursday, Flattline will know the roads I'm on about.KermitLeFrog wrote:Both of those look good to me. Re: Op Storm III: Yorkshire Dales 18-21 May 2017
actually, I like this one.
https://www.plotaroute.com/route/417040
it has less main road sections, but it does mean the "extra bit at the end" for those who don't want an early bath, is going to be Hawes to Stettle and back
. those who are flagging can either wait at hawes or head back to Layburn and then to camp. it also goes over Buttertubs pass just for Ziggy.
so we have various options and the run leaders can then debate the merits of each... bottom line is they will all be fun, and I will happily go on any route, especially if it is one I have never ridden

I seem to be on the list but I won't be coming, as I am letting the license cool down from the fuss and nonsense of Wales last year....
