haven't got as far as cleaning the exhaust yet, but we did find the plastic tray under the carbs was missing, my guess is that when it had it's cct's replaced(with poxy oem auto's again) the mechanic forgot to put it back on, and decided not to bother taking the carbs off again, still it's been replaced, the bikes also had a new filter and plugs, just waiting on the oil, tony have you checked to see if the new/old petcock is a good'un???

Knew there was something else I had to do to the bike.... I riveted the end of my cans in place after I launched one of them down the bypass earlier today.

That's exactly what I had to do to get mine out when I wanted to change the packing. I drilled the rivets out but still couldn't get the end caps off, so went for a ride. 5mins down the road it starting getting louder, then a little louder, then louder, then even louder still,. then I had to stop and try and push them in enough to get me back home. Ended up putting a couple of little screws through the holes to temporally and loosely hold the end cap in place.

This week I have mainly been in the cave on & off whilst the weather has been shite...

New chain & sprockets on Nue Red, put a Hel clutch line on, less than 10 mins to bleed it through ! I'm getting good at it !

Faffed around with a few other bits, side light, front vac take off put some fibre washers on the mudguard bolts as it was wobbling about a bit.

Balanced the carb's on Drooper then nicked the Vac take off to put on Nue...

Tidied up the Cave & made Frank do a stock check.

Bashed knuckle good & proper whilst undoing a bolt, swore quite a bit, wiped blood off bodywork...

Pushed it out the car port, layed the new Lino and pushed it back in again!!!!. Got to get the house up together 6 viewings tomorrow and 3 Sunday.
Not even on the market yet and 2 offers already!!!. House prices have gone mad, we had our offer accepted so hopefully ours will go tomorrow.
Trebled in price in 12 yrs. Christ knows how kids can afford a mortgage.

Adjusted the CCT again as my last adjustment i did was slightly too loose

Also Adjusted the Clutch adjuster as it was slipping and starting to do my tits in

GSXR 1000 K5 / K6 - 4000 Miles
Clutch Adjustment in Colour pictures.
Tools Required;
4mm Hex Key, 10mm & 12mm spanners, medium cross head screwdriver, 10mm & 19mm sockets and a ratchet
Symptoms adjustment on screw is required;
Bike pulls forward when in gear with clutch in and throttle applied, bike feels like clutch is slipping when riding at constant speed or on acceleration
Steps;
Pic 1 > Wind Span Adjuster in

Pic 2 > Prop Tank (seat off tank plastics off and two front tank bolts undone 4mm hex / allen head)

Pic 3 > Location of cable adjustment, take the slack up with this, 10mm &12mm spanner required

Pic 4 > Check for slack at the lever arm and the clutch lever 10-15mm at the clutch lever

Pic 5 > Remove clutch release adjuster cap 19mm socket

Pic 6 > Clutch adjustment screw at the top

Pic 7 > Loosen the lock nut >hold the rear with a 12mm spanner and 10mm socket on the lock nut

Pc 8 > Holding the rear 12mm turn out the screw two or three full rotations

Now turn in the screw until resistance is felt
Now from this position turn the screw back out half or a *quarter of a turn
Then hold the screw in place and tighten the 10mm lock nut down again
Replace clutch release adjuster cap (11 N.m - 8 lb-ft )
Finally check free play adjustment again at the lever take up the slack with span adjuster to get correctly play
*Manual says half turn on screw but a quarter is recommended


Its of no use here mind but least i can coppy it over if i find a decent K5 / K6 UK owners group forum, might have to make one as its a nightmare the facebook page as there is no guides or anything just endless pics of dumb sh1t and crap videos half the time

It's mental, house I live in my dad paid 60 grand for in 1996. Inflation in relation to earnings is mental how something 60 grand in 1996 can be be sold for 187 grand in 2006, same house as mine opposite side of road, in 10 years that price inflation was mental

We can't afford mortgages, best bet is get married young and leech most of it off both parents. That's the only way that young people I know have mortgages :/

You couldn't even buy a bedsit for that price in London. For a 2 bed house/flat, no garage in London near the city or all central attractions. These days you would be looking at close to 1/2 mil + depending on how exclusive the area is. And would have to pay a yearly residents parking on top of that.

I'm seeing more and more homeless on the streets theses days, yeh a fair few of them are immigrants but there are a hell of a lot of ex armed forces, mentally ill and those that have just fallen unlucky in life. I think the rich/poor divide will get so big in the next few years that we will start to see slums appearing made out of corrugated iron and what-not. You already see small shelter things popping up alongside the Thames in places. Their no longer contained to the Waterloo/Southbank area. Picture Rio de janeiro in Brazil, this country is heading that way if things keep going the way they are going.

They go on about building little self contained affordable apartments, a bit like what they have in Japan (pods) and not much bigger than a garage. Who in their right mind is going to pay a 100,000/200,000 grand for one of them, unless you want somewhere to park you car in free of charge whilst going to work in the City during the week escape the congestion charge then as well, It's a bloody joke.

That's my morning rant over.

i fully understand, house prices are bloody stupid, doesn't matter how much you make if you want to buy in the same area the cost there has gone up. i rented a flat in London by regents park for £40 a week in 1976 and couldn't get a mortgage on it of £16k. Now its worth well over 1.8 mill.

It make you laugh that MP,s were conning us on rent on there second homes!!! bar stewards eh!

Well, I found out why mine wouldn't run properly in Yorkshire last weekend:


It's a wonder it ran at all, really.
It appears that with enough vacuum (WOT at low revs) there's enough to open the fuel tap and top up the float bowls- enough for about 10-15 seconds of running anyway, then you have to roll off, then open wide again until the float bowls refill.

There's an easy test I now realise- fit a blanked off pipe to the vertically-down outlet and the tap will once more start to work, even with the diaphragm shot full of holes. But it won't turn off again, so the float bowls will overfill when you park up.
Anyway, fixed now.

New oil and filters and a good blast out on it. Happy days
