Just in the process of fitting a set of standard Blade forks
Can anyone recommend base settings and also CHEAP mods?
Cheap as in different weight oil, springs are out of budget at the moment

Just had a look and the following are the settings i got off racetech for standard 96/97 blade forks:
For fast road riding:
Preload - 4 lines showing
Rebound - 1.5 turns out from fully seated
Compression - 1 turn out from fully seated
For track use:
Preload - 1 line showing
Rebound - 1 turn out from fully seated
Compression - 0.5 turn out from full in

Fireblade forks
When you fit them check the steering stops on the bottom yolk mine are fouling the headlight /fairing bracket giving less steering lock and the pin won't engage on the lock itself! (hopefully fixing this today) The horn needs moving as well, all I done was drilled an 8mm hole in the horn bracket about halfway along its lengh then turned it the other way round with a few washers and a longer bolt to clear the lug on the bottom yolk!

The lock-stops are fine on mine.
I haven't refitted the fairing yet so I'll look out for the horn (ooh-err!!)
Also didn't have any problems with the steering lock, other than getting it off the old yokes!! (Still got a swollen black knuckle from that one)
Now all I've gotta do is get the new front tyre scrubbed in so I can test the forks properly (2 front slides while checking for travel on the brakes has put me of trying harder - YET!!) but the feeling from the new forks is noticeably better already - WOOHOO

Mine must have been from a different year Blade, filed a notch in the lugs on the bottom yolk and I had to lower the steering lock by 3mm, this was because I fitted taper roller bearings in the headstock and they are a bit deeper than std and move the yolks further apart
