single sided swingarm.

Post by adfski »

Just seen one off a vfr on ebay. The ad says great for converting firestorms (as some you extremely talented bods have done!)

What i want to know is how much work would be involved? I it a simple case of removal and refitting or are their loads of bushes and bearings etc to renew. (or even more complex issues?)

Also how difficult is it changing to better second hand forks? I think fireblade seem to be the most popular choice but what are the choices and again the implications.

I don't have the funds right now but in the next few years I'd like to start modding my old workhorse. These two mods seem to be the place to start.

I never even thought about the exhaust. Does it have to go 2 into 1 or re-route? I'll go and have a closer look at that streetfighter jobbie on the other post. Underseats are possible too from what I've seen but...ouch, the cost!

It all gets a bit expensive when things like that come into it.

The fireblade forks sound the business though. That sounds like a cheaper and more sensible place to start.

cheers

Hi, where did you get the stem pressed out of the yoke? It's just that i'm looking at doing a fork swap and wanted the easiest route to a pair or USD's.

Is changing the stem all you needed to do for the swap?

Cheers,

just to clarify? I can get some pre RRY forks and slip em straight into the existing yokes. The mudguard will not fit anymore so I assume a Fireblade one will?

Do the brakes fit on?

If you have the full fork and yoke set off a newer blade can you attach that to the frame (after pressing out certain bits and bobs)? Does this mean I could have USD forks on my storm? The brakes would almost certainly have to come off a blade for this - yes?

If the gsx 1100 forks fit, I assume this is a full fork and yoke set up? Is this the same principle as the RRY and after method?

Sorry but I am a bit dim and am not keeping up.

I've been talking to a lad from another forum and he makes custom yokes in his spare time. He said he'll knock me up some yokes for whatever forks i want to fit the storm.

£250 For that plus the price of the forks. I've been looking on ebay and you can pick up r1 forks for just under 200 quid so for 450 quid i'll have a new front end. Get in! :D

I'd just be a bit worried about buying a front end without knowing the size of the stem. If it's much bigger it wont fit in the storm yokes.

Got any pics of your bike by the way?

Andy,
No, the blade forks require the blade yokes, as the stanchions of the Blade forks are thicker than the VTR ones :!: Have a look at this link for conventional blade forks etc swap over:-

I was going to do this mod but i think i'm going to go the custom yoke route and fit a pair of R1 forks.

I've seen a few pairs on ebay which aren't going for crazy money so will hopefully buy those over the weekend. :D

Custom yokes is by far the best way to go, I went down this route with my 916 front end. That way I can run all the standard Ducati front end parts to save hassle.

The back end is no 10 minute job I'm afraid but well worth the effort once done.
