Post by bikerpiker »

Would prob try it myself given the good info on this site ,but approx what would it cost to put my vtr into a Honda dealer to get both cct's supplied and fitted?
Also what kind of warranty would i get on the work?

OK....What i want to know is,how come,if cct's seem to be such an issue with failures, and people shittin it when out a run incase they go,and are mentioned regularly on this forum,...WHY HAS NOBODY REPLIED (sorry for shoutin) :!:
Surely with the membership numbers of this forum, somebody has had a price to get them done.
I have said i'd do em myself, but just very curious as to why, when if they are notorious for failure, nobody has posted a reply :?: :?:
Maybe it's a myth ...like Nessie ,or is that real :?: ,

Calm down dear help is at hand well kinda cct's from honda dealer are roughly £50 each 8O you need 2 so weve got 100 quid before mr honda man gets his hands on your storm then mr honda will want the tank off air box etc etc to get to the front, set the timing marks up etc etc take the cam covers off etc etc ive no idea how much they will charge but it wont be cheap, can you not do this yourself or have a mate do it, its not that difficult a job if you take your time have abit of gumption about you and follow the cct guide on here not the haynes manual.

ps cct's are about £26 from david silvers each

if you lived closer id do it for you

From my local Honda dealer it came worked out to just over £160 including parts and vat, I guess it depends where you live as to the labour charge.

If it helps any... I bought my storm, had zero bike mechanic experience, and with the help of the guide, managed to swap out both my CCT's. Front was rattling before, and after swap, rattling had gone! Very rewarding :D

Bottom line, what Alan said!

Mines now reached the dreaded 12000 mark, so me thinks I need to be changing mine.
Even though I,m a dab hand at most things , this is one thing I dont wish to attempt. Call me chicken but I know i,d do some thing wrong and naff it up.
Mind you, not having a garage to do it in dont help . :(

Forget the Honda ones, if you are going to do it get manual ones and you will never have to worry about them again!
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

That funny actually , cause me dad has always brought me up to change the oil and filter every 6000 miles. I know it cost but it,s worth it in the long run.
While were on the subject, what if any is the best oil for the vrt. At the mo i,m using motul with gen honda filter .

A mechanic who worked on these when they first came out has told me never to run them whilst on the side stand ? Who am I to argue.

Has any one else heard of this .

My two penceworth..... :D

My front one went a couple of thou ago....Was about £60 inc P&P for the pair from David Silvers (Excellent Service BTW) and being a little lacking on the engine maintenance side I had a mate come over and help...
Used the excellent info from here and it was a doddle.

I reckon £100 for the CCt's from a dealer plus say 3-4 Hours labour at what £35 Hour ish?? - Thats £200+ at least 8O

If you have a go yourself just take your time and check and double check everything before you start her up

Or you could get just the springs from Dave Greenwood, follow his instructions & use the origional tensioner mechanism.
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6036.
There's a theory banded about that the replcement units come wound all the way in,could've been in this state for a long time, stressing thespring?
